The present invention is directed to providing systems and methods for remotely monitoring sites to provide real-time information which can readily permit distinguishing false alarms, and which can identify and track the precise location of an alarm. In embodiments, monitoring capabilities such as intrusion / fire detection and tracking capabilities, can be implemented through the use of multistate indicators in an interface which permits information to be transmitted using standard network protocols from a remote site to a monitoring station in near real-time. In embodiments, communications can be handed from the centrally located host monitoring station to a mobile monitoring station (for example, a laptop computer in a responding vehicle, such as a police or fire vehicle). Additional embodiments include the measurement of environmental parameters such as temperature, carbon monoxide and differential air pressure to detect, monitor and manage a fire event. These measurements along with selected controllable output devices deployed in a space, such as sprinkler control valves and individually or zoned sprinkler heads, are used to initiate and control fire suppression technology both locally and remotely. Method and apparatus for computer-aided determination of viewer's gaze direction

The corneal reflex method is used to detect the current direction of view (VD) of a user (UE) to perform specifically selected functions on a computer. Eye vectors (EV) can be detected between the pupil center (ZP) and reflection points (RP) on the cornea (CA) that can be associated with a fixation point (FP) on a computer screen using infrared light (IRS). The association is produced as a function of the direction of view (VDF), so the relationship is detected during an initial calibration (C) by a referenced user (RE) to develop a set of reference eye vectors (EVR). A shorter self-balancing recalibration (RC) is then carried out for each subsequent user (UE). A mapping function (MF) is detected during the recalibration (RC) so that the individual eye vectors (EVU) can be converted to the reference eye vectors (EVR) by the mapping function. The recalibration (RC) can take place without the user (UE) realizing it. The method is useful in medical diagnostics, psycho-optical examinations and eye-controlled interaction with multimedia computers.

A transvascular system (10) for delivering a drug to a tissue region from a blood vessel, such as a coronary vein, includes a catheter (12) having a distal portion (26) with puncturing (14), orientation (16), drug delivery (62), and imaging elements (18). The puncturing element (14) is deployable for penetrating the vessel wall to access the tissue region. The orientation element (16), e.g. a “cage” including a plurality of struts (38) (40) and / or a radiopaque marker, has a predetermined relationship with the puncturing element (14), the imaging element (18) detecting the location of the orientation element (16) with respect to the tissue region to orient the puncturing element. The catheter (12) is percutaneously introducing into the vessel, the puncturing element (14) is oriented towards the tissue region, the puncturing element (14) is deployed to access the tissue region, and the drug is delivered to the tissue region. An ablation device (230) may also be deployed to create a cavity or fluid reservoir in the tissue region for receiving the drug therein, or an indwelling catheter (214) may be advanced into and left in the tissue region.

Automatic method and system for measurements of bone density and structure of the hip from 3-D X-ray imaging devices

A method uses a computer and software to measure bone density and structure of the proximal femur of the hip from a volumetric set of images containing pixels representing x-ray attenuation of the subject which are acquired with three-dimensional X-ray imaging devices. The method automatically locates anatomical markers of the hip without operator interaction, automatically positions regions of interest (ROIs) for measurement, automatically determines bone density measures of the ROIs, and automatically reports the results for individual subjects. Bone density measurements of ROIs include the integral bone of the total hip and neck as well as trabecular bone. The method automatically identifies a three-dimensional region-of-interest (ROI) volume which includes the hip, determines a three-dimensional coordinate system referenced to the anatomy of the subject, analyzes the ROI volume to identify voxels in the volume which satisfy defined criteria, and determines a measure of bone structure.

It is an object of the present invention to provide just such a method to automatically detect communications signals in near real time, from any selectable sub-area of a compound. Such a system would greatly enhance the operational capabilities of the twenty-first century organization by providing a real-time capability to secure radio communications in and around a compound. The system has all the abilities of the system described in the '976 application, but is further able to automatically detect the direction of the incoming signals (relative to two or more collector subsystems in communication with each other), and thereafter to add that information to the surveillance decision logic such that the actual geographical location, as adjusted by the calibration information for the particular compound surveillance decision logic. Secondly, the system has the capability of being calibrated such that the particular RF environment of the compound in question is uniquely mapped. The calibration tables maintained by each network-attached directional collection node of the system invention in order to provide a more robust and accurate signal geo-location system. Thirdly, the system is able to automatically pinpoint the geographic area of the source of the incoming signals and add that information to the monitoring decision logic. Finally, the system provides a user interface to operators so they can easily select areas to monitor, and easily calibrate the system for maximum precision.
