A mechanic's body support including first and second horizontally-oriented and spaced-apart base rails and first and second spaced-apart support rails. Each of the support rails has one end connected to a respective one of the first and second base rails. Each support rail also extends upwardly from and is in vertical alignment with the base rails for supporting a mechanic as he kneels in an elevated position over the engine compartment of a motor vehicle. A chest pad and a knee pad are mounted in spaced-apart relation between the support rails for securing the support rails in a fixed, spaced-apart relation, and for supporting the chest and knees of the mechanic while in the kneeling position, thus allowing the skeletal structure of the body to support the weight, rather than the back and leg muscles.

An embodiment of this invention is an apparatus for floor installation, repair, cleaning or ground proximity work. Disclosed is a supportive chair for sitting comfortably at low heights above and relative to the ground. Preferably, the chair comprises a primary seating surface and a secondary seating surface curving around the rear of the primary seating surface to provide additional support for the user. It is preferred that the secondary seating surface be inwardly and downwardly sloped and provide a low lateral boundary for the user, thereby promoting proper alignment of the buttocks on the primary seating surface. Thus, the chair raises the buttocks and hips of the user off of the seating level, creating a relative height difference between the hips and legs. The present invention is a kneeler seat for use in the kneeling or sitting position. The kneeler seat comprises first and second leg members each having first and second end portions and a seat engagement portion disposed substantially closer to the first end portion than the second end portion. Each of the seat engagement portion comprise an elongated cavity having upper and lower surfaces and first and second side surfaces. Each of the seat engagement portions further comprises first and second guide and retention channels formed in the upper and lower surfaces of the elongated cavity, respectively. The first and second guide and retention channels are aligned and disposed parallel to and between the first and second sidewalls. The seat member comprises first and second plugs engageable with the seat engagement portions of the first and second leg members, respectively. Each of the first and second plugs comprises a base portion and first and second walls extending outward from said base portion. The first and second plugs further comprise first and second guide and retention members protruding from opposite sides of the base portion. The first and second plugs may further comprise a stop member to prevent disengagement from the first and second leg members.
