Knee bolster airbag system

A knee protection airbag for protecting the knees of a vehicular occupant. The airbag is inflated from a storage position to a deployed position to substantially fill a space between the knees of the occupant when seated on a front seat and an instrument panel. By filling the space between the knees and the instrument panel, injury to the knees, and other body parts, is prevented. Inflation of the airbag is caused by a determination by a crash sensor system of a pending or actual crash involving the vehicle and may include an anticipatory crash sensor which forecasts a crash between the vehicle and another object prior to impact of the vehicle by the other object. In this manner, the airbag is inflated prior to the crash.

Extremity supporting and ground surface sliding exercise system

An extremity supporting exercise system is described. The system includes two knee sliders and two hand sliders. Each knee slider includes a knee pad and a knee base. The knee pad includes a recessed portion that is adapted to receive a user's knee. A patella support is disposed within the knee portion to support the user's patella when using the knee slider. Alternatively, each hand slider includes a hand pad and a hand base. The hand pad includes a series of finger indentations that are flanked by thumb receptacles. Importantly, the knee base and hand base are formed of a rigid and slippery material to allow the sliders to easily slide across a ground surface. Thus, through use of the exercise system, a user can support their hands and knees while sliding the hands and knees across a ground surface to perform a variety of exercises.

A knee cushion support for placement atop a surface in an area beneath knees of a user comprising a covering that encloses the outer periphery of the cushion support. A pair depressions formed in the upper surface of the cushion receives and supports the knees of a user while in the kneeling position. A resilient inner core member is enclosed within the outer covering. A convex shaped ridge member is located between a pair of depressions that accommodate the knee of a user. An essentially concave shaped portion formed integral with, and curved upward from said the lower surface is aligned on the lower surface beneath the ridge member in an arrangement that will permit stacking of a number of knee cushion supports together in a nesting arrangement. A pair of handles or grips are formed on the first and second end-walls to facilitate grasping and transporting the knee cushion support.

Spinal traction device and method

A spinal traction / decompression device suitable for home or clinical treatment of lumbar and cervical spine pathology. The traction apparatus has a substantially flat upper body support that is moveable with respect to a fixed base. The upper body support is adapted to receive the upper torso of an individual leaning forward in a prone position while kneeling on a knee cushion. A pelvis / hip restraining portion holds the individual's lower torso in position with respect to the fixed base when the upper body support is moved. Lumbar traction may be induced by a user positioning their upper torso on the upper body support and moving it forward or backward with respect to the fixed base. The upper body support may also be divided into two independently moveable sections such that cervical traction can be induced in a neck region of a user. The traction force is preferably supplied by the individual pushing or pulling the upper body support forward with their arms. The upper body support may rotate, side bend, flex or extend with respect to the fixed base to alter the position of the spine when the lumbar traction is induced.

Automotive knee bolster installation and method of construction

A knee bolster installation for an automotive vehicle includes a bridge plate extending across a space receiving a steering column in front of the driver's knee and having a knee impact absorber structure attached behind each end of the bridge plate. Each knee impact absorber structure has diverging front and back walls having a curve top wall and a curved intermediate web extending between the front and back walls, and a curved bottom connecting the lower end of front and back walls together. A horizontal stabilizer web connects the top wall and intermediate web together to restrain bulging when crushed to avoid horizontal collapse thereof during deformation. Offset openings in each of the top wall, intermediate web, and bottom wall form wider curved strips at the inside adjacent the steering column space so that the front of the outside ends of the knee installation absorber structures are inclined away from the steering column space when deformed by knee impact. The knee installation absorber structures are preferably extruded and the openings thereafter cut into the top wall, intermediate web and bottom wall.
