Ubiquitous imaging device based check image capture

A method or corresponding apparatus for remote transmission of a negotiable instrument. In an example embodiment, the process provides a carrier that secures a negotiable instrument. Next, the process creates a unique identifier, associated with the carrier, and generates an electronic image of the negotiable instrument. After generating the electronic image, the process transmits the electronic image of the negotiable instrument and the unique identifier to a remote location. The negotiable instrument may be transmitted via a fax, a scanner, a device designed to transmit electronic data, other image device compatible with ITU-T recommendations T.30 or T.4, or combination thereof. The process may also verify the negotiable instrument has a valid endorsement, verify image quality of the electronic image to ensure compliance with financial industry standards, or validate any received security information.

Sleeve with corner tabs

A sleeve for holding papers or other material may be provided with an outer corner tab. The sleeve may be formed of a single die-cut sheet of plastic or other material, or from two or more sheets that are attached together. A first sheet may include score lines along two adjacent edges that enable an extended portion of the first sheet to be folded over a second sheet. The second sheet may include score lines that enable an outer corner tab to be formed thereon. The corner tab enables a portion of the papers or other material stored in the sleeve to be inserted into an insert space of the tab. The tab may then be used to retain papers in a secure manner, such that they will not fall out of the sleeve should the sleeve or folder be inverted.

"green" temperature- controlled mailer

A mailer has an outer, longitudinally extending, biodegradable film with lateral edges folded on itself to form a pocket having an opening and sealable by a flap. An assembly is composed of an inner, longitudinally extending, biodegradable film having lateral edges and a longitudinal extending pad composed of textile cuttings and microbial and super-absorbent powders. The inner film extends longitudinally around the pad and is attached to the pad. The assembly is positioned in the pocket with the inner film being sealed to the outer film adjacent the opening to the pocket trapping the pad between the outer and inner films. Sealing tape is mounted on the inner film adjacent to the pocket to seal the pocket closed. The lateral edges of both the outer and inner films, which extend laterally beyond the pad, are heat sealed together.

Tamper-indicating resealable closure

A tamper indicating, resealable closure for a package includes first and second film layers releasably adhesively joined together such that the first and second film layers are at least partially separable when the second film layer is pulled away from the first film layer. The first film layer includes first and second tear lines formed thereon to define first and second panel sections respectively. The first panel section defines an access opening through the first film layer when it is separated along the first tear line during an initial separation of the first and second film layers. The second panel section also becomes separated from the first film layer when the second film layer is separated from the first film layer to provide an indication of an initial opening of the closure. Subsequently, the second film layer may be re-adhered to the first film layer to reseal the access opening, while the second panel section remains separated from the first film layer.

System and method for determining and reporting whether a mail piece has been opened by a recipient

A system for determining whether a mail piece has been opened including mail pieces that have the ability indicate a previously opened and never opened state, such as with a state change element, an interrogator unit, such as an RFID reader, for receiving state information, and a data center that receives the state information from the interrogator unit. Also, a method for determining whether a mail piece has been opened including receiving mail pieces at a recipient location, receiving at an interrogator unit, such as an RFID reader, state information from the mail pieces, and transmitting the state information from the interrogator unit to a data center. In either the system or method, each mail piece may have an RFID tag that communicates with the state change element and transmits the state information to the RFID reader. Bar code or other technologies may be substituted for RFID technology.

Tabbed divider and pocket construction

A foldable paper sheet is formed having a sheet body portion, a sheet lower side flap extending out from a lower side edge of the sheet body portion, a pocket panel extending out from a bottom edge of the sheet body portion, and a pocket side flap extending out from a side edge of the pocket panel. The pocket side flap is folded in towards the pocket panel, the pocket panel is folded up and the pocket side flap is glued to the back face of the sheet body portion. The sheet lower side flap is folded and glued to the pocket panel. The pocket panel is thereby secured along both side edges to the sheet body portion, has an open top and thus defines a pocket on the back of the sheet body portion. The pocket panel can have a finger notch at the center of its top edge. A tab is cut out of the edge portion of the sheet body portion to form a tabbed divider sheet. The tab advantageously can be formed at any location along the edge portion including at a lower location directly adjacent to the pocket. Binder holes were punched in the paper preferably during an early production step of the foldable paper sheet. Binder holes in the pocket panel, the side edge flap and the sheet body portion are in alignment with the foldable paper sheet folded and glued. Two of the binder holes in the body portion are spaced above the pocket, and to reinforce these holes the sheet includes an upper side flap. This flap also has two binder holes which with the flap folded onto and glued to the back of the body portion align with the two body portion holes.
