The shoulder rest is an accessory that can be found on violins and violas. It may be made of wood, aluminium, carbon fiber or plastic. Usually, the shoulder rest attaches to the edge of the back of the violin with "feet" padded with rubber tubing or made of soft plastic. The goal of a shoulder rest is to allow a more comfortable attitude while playing by adding height to the shoulder and preventing the instrument from slipping (Kreitman, p. 30). A shoulder rest generally follows the curve of the shoulder; some shoulder rests are bendable, others are made of sponge-like material, and a few have an extension that hooks further over the shoulder for stability. It is a relatively recent invention, and though it is quite commonly used among modern violinists and violists, it is not universally used. Depending on body type and style of clothes, some musicians need no more than a thin sponge, a cloth or sometimes nothing at all under the instrument.
End member for a bone fusion implant
An end member for use with a bone fusion implant is disclosed. The end member has a first portion, a second portion, and a shoulder connecting the two portions. The second portion is sized to fit within the interior of the bone fusion implant in such a fashion that the shoulder rests on the edge of the implant. The top surface of the first portion has at least one slot to receive a surgical instrument such as an inserter and / or distractor to facilitate implantation of the end member and bone fusion implant. The top surface may also have teeth to provide initial mechanical stability between the bone and end plate and promote bone fusion.

A locking hinge especially used in a folding shoulder rest for paintball guns. The locking hinge comprises a first hinge plate and a second hinge plate in relative rotation. The first hinge plate has a hinge joint axis, a plurality of symmetric mounting holes, and a counter bore for receiving the locking mechanism. The counter bore in the first hinge plate contains a spring and a locking cylinder. The locking cylinder has a taper on the end directed toward the second hinge plate. The second hinge plate has a relative hinge joint axis, a plurality of tapered circular cavities or notches, and a means for symmetric mounting. The locking mechanism sufficiently aligns with the tapered circular cavities or notches at plurality of predetermined positions thereby preventing rotation of the hinge plates. A minor misalignment between the locking mechanism and tapered circular cavities further provide rigid locking of the hinge plates.

The improved shoulder brace of the present invention includes a support having a cup-shaped central portion adapted to receive and support a human shoulder, a front portion adapted to extend over the chest area of a person wearing the brace, a lower portion depending below the central portion and adapted to encircle and support the upper portion of the arm adjacent the shoulder, and a rear portion adapted to extend over the scapular area adjacent the shoulder. The support can be a single piece of flexible sheet material, with or without padding, and preferably is porous, or can be separate pieces interconnected to form a unitary whole. Preferably, the support is of a porous mesh material or an elastomeric material with spaced openings. The brace also includes a first elongated strap connected at one end to the rear portion of the support and bearing on its opposite free end a conector which releasably secures to a connector on the front portion of the support for releasably and adjustably holding the brace around the torso. A second strap has one end connected to the lower portion of the support and an opposite free end bearing a connector which releasably secures to a connector on the lower portion, thus enabling the lower portion to be releasably secured around the arm to be supported.
