A search engine query is a request for information that is made using a search engine. Every time a user puts a string of characters in a search engine and presses "Enter", a search engine query is made.

System and method for integrating on-line user ratings of businesses with search engines

A computer program product is provided as a business rating system to rank business that are relevant to a given Internet search topic. Business ratings are stored in a ranking repository that can be optionally searched by the user along with a user-defined search engine query. The business ratings are compiled from on-line questionnaires attached to the search engine results and/or on-line surveys obtained through other web based rating services. The business ratings assess the quality of the businesses in terms of “interactive” criteria such as customer satisfaction, professionalism, and cost and ease of use of the businesses' products or services. The business rating system is comprised of an on-line indexing engine, a query transformer, a search results transformer, a ranking based result sorter, an on-line ranking system, a metadata repository, and an on-line ranking repository. The business rating system integrates the ratings with the search results, and ranks the search results based on such business ratings. In this manner, the user of a search engine receives feedback from other users about businesses of interest. Eventually, businesses with higher ratings will be ranked at the top of the search list, while business with lower ratings will be ranked lower.

Systems and methods for generating statistics from search engine query logs

A computer-implemented method includes calculating first statistics about a user-identified event within a first subset of a database of events; selecting a second subset of the database of events based on said first statistics; calculating second statistics about the user-identified event within the second subset of the database of events; merging the first and second statistics as statistics of the user-identified event within the entire database of events; and generating a result including at least a portion of the merged statistics of the user-identified event.

Searchable television commercials

A mechanism is provided for indexing commercials. A viewer may query a search engine for a particular product or service. The index may include descriptors that are provided within a blanking interval within the media stream or within program guide information associated with the stream. The index information may also include Internet hyperlinks. Commercials may also have associated therewith a value that is relative to a value of media content. A viewer may accumulate value by viewing advertisements. Accumulated value may then be used to acquire more content.

Declarative web application for search and retrieval

Disclosed is a method and Declarative Web Application (DWA) for creating an abstraction layer between a web page and the complicated syntax required to access data to display on the web page. The abstraction layer is implemented with eXtensible Markup Language (XML) tags that permit a web page using simple, non-compiled custom XML tags embedded in Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) formatting commands to call complex data storage and search engine queries using a simple, declaratory statement via a XML tag. Use of the simple, declaratory XML statement removes the need for any scripting or other complex code from the web page that may require compilation and / or extensive verification testing for changes to the web page code. The resulting web pages and query definitions are easier and less expensive to maintain and extend. Further, the data returned from the data storage system is formatted to be name and content addressable such that the HTML commands to display the data are implemented using a simple, declarative syntax of XML tags. Again, the use of simple, declarative XML tags allows the web page code to be restricted to simple HTML code, thus, avoiding the need to compile and / or perform extensive verification testing when a change is made to the HTML code. The system deskills the expertise necessary to create a data rich web page such that a graphic web designer is capable of creating a web page without the assistance of a Java or Structured Query Language (SQL) programmer. Also, the SQL programmer may create and then make queries available without the assistance of a programmer and without the need to use a programming language other than SQL.

Voice search method, voice search system, mobile terminal and transfer server

The invention provides a voice search method, which includes the steps: recognizing received voice search messages as text messages, and performing participle processing for the text messages; performing sentence pattern match and semantic analysis for the text messages subjected to participle processing, so as to obtain search engine keywords and search keywords; submitting the search keywords to a search engine corresponding to the search engine keywords for search; and informing a user of a search result received from the search engine. By the aid of the method, one-step search can be realized by the aid of simple voice commands, and search on an electronic commerce website with the search engine can be directly realized without using a specific search engine provided with a service provider.

QuickView - combination of system and software components which enables search engine users to quickly identifiying relevant search returned results using visual images as references

A method, apparatus, software components to identify images (WebPages Thumbnails, web documents, etc.) relevant to search engine query results, for displaying on computerized devices. The disclosed invention combines systems for database file searching, indexing, analysis, re-indexing, retrieval, and distribution and reviewing. Although, the primary purpose of this invention is to be integrated with Internet Search Engines to assist users (searchers) in sorting through return from their search query, which often are unrelated and redundant information, the invention can be used with other database systems as well. Unlike traditional search engine systems, the invention described herein incorporates a search engine Query Results capture and Analysis component with an Imaging System, which matches query results to related images of WebPages. Then utilizing a Query component coupled with Image retrieval and delivery components, both the searches engine query results and related WebPages Images added to the query results page viewing.

System and method for web based sharing of search engine queries

While a user browses through a network, the present invention monitors and detects search queries. As a user enables queries to search for documents containing information necessary to the completion of a task, hobby, entertainment or to improve his or her general knowledge, the present invention detects that a query has been enabled and stores the query for later presentation to a user in an integrated browser list window. If a user wishes to share queries with other users in a global database, he or she must select a query string for sharing in an integrated browser list window. The query is stored locally and forwarded across a communication network to a hub processing unit for permanent storage in a global database accessible by a plurality of users. Also, the user can add annotations to the search query prior to its being forwarded to the hub processing unit. The hub processing unit in coordination with the global database organizes and manages the storage of selected shared query. Once stored in the global database, other users can benefit from the intelligence, work and experience of others by searching through categories of search queries as well as simply browsing through them. This is accomplished by a second user entering categorical data to his local graphical user interface which communicates with a search and retrieval program. The search and retrieval program returns a grouping or listing of headlines related to the category selected by the second user.

System and methods for ranking the relative value of terms in a multi-term search query using deletion prediction

The likely relevance of each term of a search-engine query of two or more terms is determined by their deletion probability scores. If the deletion probability scores are significantly different, the deletion probability score can be used to return targeted ads related to the more relevant term or terms along with the search results. Deletion probability scores are determined by first gathering historical records of search queries of two or more terms in which a subsequent query was submitted by the same user after one or more of the terms had been deleted. The deletion probability score for a particular term of a search query is calculated as the ratio of the number of times that particular term was itself deleted prior to a subsequent search by the same user divided by the number of times there were subsequent search queries by the same user in which any term or terms including that given term was deleted by the same user prior to the subsequent search. Terms are not limited to individual alphabetic words.

Search engine query customization and search site rating system

A method and system are provided for web search customization and web site rating. The system receives user input web sites, stores the web sites in a database, and groups them into user-specified categories. The system further allows users to select one or more web sites for customizing web search and querying the preselected sites using user input keywords. The system further provides the users with options to query a plurality of search engines. All web sites stored within the system are rated in response to the user operations. Each web site has at least a global rating indicating the rating within the system, a category rating indicating the rating within a given category, and a keyword rating indicating the rating for a given keyword. The system provides the users with a list of recommended web sites based on the web sites' ratings.
