Methods and apparatus perform periodic breathing detection, such as Cheyne-Stokes respiration detection. The detection may be performed by one or more processors, such as by analysis of data from one or more sensors. In some cases, the detection may be based on an electrocardiogram (ECG) signal, such as from ECG electrodes and/or an accelerometer signal, such as from an accelerometer. An occurrence of periodic breathing may be detected based on features derived from the signal(s). For example, detection may be based on deriving a respiration signal from the sensed signal(s) and/or analysis of RR interval times or relative QRS amplitude values, which may be evaluated on a segment-by-segment basis. The detection may provide monitoring and reporting of the occurrence of periodic breathing by a monitoring device and/or provide a basis for controlling changes to a provided respiratory treatment or therapy, such as by a respiratory pressure therapy device.

A respiratory pressure therapy (RPT) device is disclosed for treatment of respiratory-related disorders. The RPT device includes a pressure generator, a pneumatic block, a chassis and a device outlet for delivering a supply of flow of gas to a patient interface. A respiratory treatment device includes a housing enclosing a chamber, a chamber inlet configured to receive a flow of air into the chamber, a first chamber outlet configured to permit the flow of air to exit the chamber, and a second chamber outlet configured to permit the flow of air to exit the chamber. Disconnection of a patient circuit, including a patient interface and air delivery circuit, may be detected and a message or alarm activated. In some versions, detecting occurrences of circuit disconnection event(s), such as by a processor, may be based on an instantaneous disconnection parameter as a function of a disconnection setting. The disconnection setting may be determined based on patient circuit type. A system for sensing respiratory pressure includes a portable pressure transducer configured to be carried by or proximate to a respiratory conduit, such as a breathing circuit or a nasal canula. The air delivery tube includes electric contacts associated with a heating and/or a sensing arrangement. The air delivery tube includes a locking collar rotatably movable between (1) an unlocked position to allow connection/disconnection of the air delivery tube to/from the engagement port, and (2) a locked position to releasably lock the air delivery tube to the engagement port. A method and apparatus to deliver a variable flow of oxygen to a patient is described. The apparatus may include a flow control valve, a pressure sensor to detect a patient's breathing pressure and ambient pressure, an oxygen flow analyzer to measure oxygen flow to the patient, and a processor to analyze the breathing pressure values, ambient pressure value, and oxygen flow rate values and to determine when a patient is inhaling. When the processor determines the patient is inhaling, the processor calculates an optimal oxygen flow rate to deliver to a patient, which may depend on a pre-selected flow rate and an oxygen backlog, and the processor sends a signal to the flow control valve to deliver the optimal oxygen flow rate to the patient.
