Methods of treating language, behavioral and social disorders are described, including methods of treating language disorders associated with electrographic abnormalities in the primary or associative language cortex of persons with autism spectrum disorders, pervasive developmental delay or acquired epileptic aphasia. A language, behavioral and social disorder may be treated by detecting epileptiform activity or an electrographic seizure for a subject's brain and applying neurostimulation to a language cortical region of the subject's brain (e.g., a primary or associative language cortical region). Detection of epileptiform activity or an electrographic seizure and stimulation of language cortex may be performed by a sensing and / or stimulation electrode that is inserted into a subject's brain and connected to one or more neurostimulation devices for monitoring and / or stimulating the language cortex.

Microbiome markers and therapies for autism spectrum disorders

The present disclosure provides for characterization of normal flora and identifying biomarkers in the gut of healthy, neruotypical subjects. Aspect of the disclosure provide for the characterization of the gut microbiome in ADS subjects, characterized by reduced richness and significant loss of the ‘Prevotella-like enterotype’ compared to neurotypical subjects. The relative abundance of genera Prevotella, Coprococcus, Prevotellaceae and Veillonellaceae are significantly lower in autistic children than in neurotypical children. Further, Prevotella, is one of the three main classifiers for the human enterotypes, along with Bacteroides and Ruminococcus. These three core genera are among main contributors in the principle component analysis. ‘Prevotella-like enterotype’ was absent in the autistic group, while neurotypical samples showed an even distribution among the three enterotypes. The present disclosure provides for an understanding the association between gut microbiota, health, and disease states, and provides for potential diagnostic and therapeutic targets.

Execution function evaluating and training system for autism spectrum disorder children

The invention discloses an execution function evaluating and training system for autism spectrum disorder children, wherein a problem of evaluating and training the execution function of the autism spectrum disorder children is settled by means of advanced man-machine interaction technology and brain information sensing technology. The execution function evaluating and training system comprises the components of a student intelligent terminal, a portable electroencephalogram, a portable set-top-box, a cloud server and a parent handheld smart phone. The functional units are connected through wireless communication technology, wherein the student intelligent terminal provides a user interaction interface and records a user face expression image and spatiotemporal dynamics behaviors of buttons in real time. The portable electroencephalogram records the brain wave rhythm of the user. The data set-top-box is a system data collecting and analyzing center and analyzes the collected data through an algorithm for realizing sensing and estimating of the execution function on the user. Furthermore the man-machine interaction interface is constructed for realizing execution function training based on the analysis. The parent handheld smart phone acquires the execution function evaluating and training result of a child through the cloud server.

Non-invasive magnetic or electrical nerve stimulation to treat or prevent autism spectrum disorders and other disorders of psychological development

Devices, systems and methods are disclosed for treating or preventing an autism spectrum disorder, a pervasive developmental disorder, or a disorder of psychological development. The methods comprise transmitting impulses of energy non-invasively to selected nerve fibers, particularly those in a vagus nerve. The nerve stimulation may be used as a behavior conditioning tool, by producing euphoria in an autistic individual. Vagus nerve stimulation is also used to modulate circulating serotonin levels in a pregnant woman so as to reduce the risk of having an autistic child; modulate the levels of growth factors within a child; promote balance of neuronal excitation / inhibition; modulate the activity of abnormal resting state neuronal networks; increase respiratory sinus arrhythmia; and avert episodes of motor stereotypies with the aid of forecasting methods.
