A lancing assembly is pivotally coupled to a housing and includes an actuator and a leaf spring carrying a lancet. When the actuator is in its set position, the leaf spring and lancet are in their set position with the leaf spring engaging a catch member of the housing. When the actuator is moved to its actuated position, the leaf spring pivots and deflects against the catch member, thereby storing a drive charge. The leaf spring then releases from the catch member as the stored charge launches the lancet to its lancing position. The leaf spring recharges towards the end of the lancing stroke, which return charge then retracts the lancet back into the housing.

In an example, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) scanners or readers are strategically placed in a construction or working area. Such RFID reading devices may be embedded, for example, in construction speed limit signs. The displayed speed limit is controlled by the detected proximity of construction workers wearing RFID-embedded clothing, for example, such as safety vests or helmets. The speed limit sign includes logic to display one of many possible speed limit displays based on the nearest, and / or the number of RFID signals detected in a given area. Vehicular traffic is thereby enabled to travel faster through construction zones where no workers are present and, when appropriate, traffic is slowed when workers are present within a given proximity of the RFID reading devices.

The invention finds application in conjunction with, e.g., analytical instruments where low detection limits for gaseous vapors are desirable. Vapors sorbed and concentrated within the bed of the apparatus can be thermally desorbed achieving at least partial separation of vapor mixtures. The apparatus is suitable, e.g., for preconcentration and sample injection, and provides greater resolution of peaks for vapors within vapor mixtures, yielding detection levels that are 10-10,000 times better than for direct sampling and analysis systems. Vehicle for Fire Control and Fire Rescue Operations in Extreme Wildlands

A mid-sized firefighting and fire rescue vehicle capable of accessing a range of off-road wildland environments that is also “street legal” for rapid on-road transportation. Calibration of ultrasonic elasticity-based lesion-border mapping

A medium of interest is interrogated according to ultrasound elastography imaging. A preliminary elasticity-spatial-map is formed. This map is calibrated against a reference elasticity-spatial-map that comprises an array (232) of different (240) elasticity values. The reference map is formed to be reflective of ultrasonic shear wave imaging of a reference medium. The reference medium is not, nor located at, the medium of interest, and may be homogeneous. Shear waves that are propagating in a medium are tracked by interrogating the medium. From tracking locations on opposite sides of an ablated-tissue border, propagation delay of a shear wave in the medium and of another shear wave are measured. The two shear waves result from respectively different pushes (128) that are separately issued. A processor decides, based on a function of the two delays, that the border crosses between the two locations. The calibrated map is dynamically updated and may include post-ablation border expansion (346) and time-annotated previous stages (344, 348).
