Due to variations arising during manufacturing, axial fans often are slightly imbalanced, resulting in noise during operation, which is undesirable in many contexts, for example when the fan is used for ventilation purposes in a motor vehicle. A fan with improved vibration and noise damping can be achieved by elastically suspending the fan wheel within a first ring formed of a hard plastic, the first ring having a tubular extension formed of a softer plastic, and serving to mechanically connect the first ring to a surrounding annular carrier part. Optionally, the first ring and extension unit can include a spring element. Preferably, the first ring and tubular extension are produced by a multi-component forming technology such as two-plastic technology. The fan is preferably driven by an electronically commutated motor (ECM).

The method comprises discontinuing combustion in the cylinder during a plurality of cycles of the engine; during the plurality of cycles, operating the exhaust manifold valve and the intake manifold valve to provide a net flow of gases from the exhaust manifold to the intake manifold via the cylinder and adjusting a torque signature provided to the crankshaft during each cycle by the piston responsive to an operating condition.

A battery which realizes high power output, cost reduction and increase in capacity. An enlarged port section is formed in an open end of a battery case. A ring-shaped support rack section is formed inside of the enlarged port section, and a ring-shaped insulating gasket is set on and supported by the support rack section. The battery has a collector of one pole, to which an end portion of an electrode plate of one pole protruding from an electrode plate group is connected. A ring and flange-shaped collar section, which is tiered with a step, is provided in the periphery of the collector, and the flange-shaped collar section is set on the bottom face of the insulating gasket. A port sealing member, in which a filter section and a cap-shaped terminal section are integrated with each other, is connected onto the collector. The enlarged port section is inwardly caulked, to fix the flange-shaped collar section of the collector and the periphery of the port sealing member, which are overlaid with each other, with the insulating gasket interposed therebetween.

Partial air inlet control strategy for air conditioning system

A system and method of selecting air intake between 100% fresh air mode and 100% recirculated air mode for optimum heating / cooling performance, fuel economy and / or high voltage (HV) battery power consumption is disclosed. The system and method includes a partial recirculation control strategy in which the air inlet door is moved progressively to any position by taking into account cooling / heating loads and cabin fogging probability. As cooling / heating loads increase the air inlet door moves toward 100% recirculation mode. As fogging probability increases the air inlet door moves toward 100% fresh air mode. By selectively choosing a position between 100% recirculation and 100% fresh air, fuel economy and / or HV battery power consumption is optimized without compromising passenger comfort or causing fogging on interior glass surfaces. In cooling applications the compressor load is minimized and air conditioning performance is improved due to the reduced evaporator cooling load. The direct result of this improvement is increased fuel economy in the case of the internal combustion vehicle, reduced engine on time in the case of the hybrid electric vehicle (due to reduced HV battery power consumption), and reduced HV battery power consumption in the case of the hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) and the electric vehicle (EV). In heating applications, as the heating load is reduced the fuel economy of the internal combustion (IC) engine will be improved, the engine on time is reduced in the case of the HEV, and HV battery power consumption is reduced in the case of the EV.
