Distributed traffic controller for network data

A distributed gateway for controlling computer network data traffic dynamically reconfigures traffic assignments among multiple gateway machines for increased network availability. If one of the distributed gateway machines becomes unavailable, traffic assignments are moved among the multiple machines such that network availability is substantially unchanged. The machines of the distributed gateway form a cluster and communicate with each other using a Group Membership protocol word such that automatic, dynamic traffic assignment reconfiguration occurs in response to machines being added and deleted from the cluster, with no loss in functionality for the gateway overall, in a process that is transparent to network users, thereby providing a distributed gateway functionality that is scalable. Operation of the distributed gateway remains consistent as machines are added and deleted from the cluster. A scalable, distributed, highly available, load balancing network gateway is thereby provided, having multiple machines that function as a front server layer between the network and a back-end server layer having multiple machines functioning as Web file servers, FTP servers, or other application servers. The front layer machines comprise a server cluster that performs fail-over and dynamic load balancing for both server layers.

Apparatus, System, and Method for Annotation of Media Files with Sensor Data

Embodiments of methods for multimedia annotation with sensor data (referred to herein as Sensor-rich video) includes acquisition, management, storage, indexing, transmission, search, and display of video, images, or sound, that has been recorded in conjunction with additional sensor information (such as, but not limited to, global positioning system information (latitude, longitude, altitude), compass directions, WiFi fingerprints, ambient lighting conditions, etc.). The collection of sensor information is acquired on a continuous basis during recording. For example, the GPS information may be continuously acquired from a corresponding sensor at every second during the recording of a video. Therefore, the acquisition apparatus generates a continuous stream of video frames and a continuous stream of sensor meta-data values. The two streams are correlated in that every video frame is associated with a set of sensor values. Note that the sampling frequency (i.e., the frequency at which sensor values can be measured) is dependent on the type of sensor. For example, a GPS sensor may be sampled at 1-second intervals while a compass sensor may be sampled at 50 millisecond intervals. Video is also sampled at a specific rate, such as 25 or 30 frames per second. Sensor data are associated with each frame. If sensor data has not changed from the previous frame (due to a low sampling rate) then the previously measured data values are used. The resulting combination of a video and a sensor stream is called a sensor-rich video.

Multilabel learning via supervised joint embedding of documents and labels

A method implemented by at least one server computer is provided, including the following operations: receiving a plurality of training documents, each training document being defined by a sequence of words, each training document having one or more labels associated therewith; embedding the training documents, the words, and the labels in a vector space, wherein the embedding is configured to locate a given training document and its associated labels in proximity to each other in the vector space; embedding a new document in the vector space; performing a proximity search in the vector space to identify a set of nearest labels to the new document in the vector space; associating the nearest labels to the new document.

Apparatus for producing graphene and other 2D materials

A 2D material such as graphene is produced on a forming sheet disposed on a carrier and exposed to a donor gas within a furnace. A first furnace surface is disposed immediately adjacent to and spaced apart from the forming sheet to define a volume. A purge gas is used to purge the volume of undesirable molecules, such as oxygen, and then a donor gas is introduced into the volume to supply an element or molecule necessary for the formation of a 2D material. Multiple carriers and forming sheets are moved in a train into the furnace during the presence of the donor gas, and each forming sheet is heated to a temperature sufficient to form 2D material on the sheet. The furnace is constructed of a nonreactive material, such as quartz, and the first furnace surface is provided by a quartz plate. Gas passageways and gas ports are formed in the quartz plate with the ports extending through the first furnace surface. The ports are disposed in patterns that facilitate the production of a smooth nonturbulent laminar flow of gas within the volume. As gases are introduced into the furnace, the gases are constrained but they escape and are collected by a surrounding gas chamber. Undesirable gases are purged and desirable gases are maintained in both the furnace and the gas chamber.

Method and apparatus for culturing marine larvae

An agitator is provided including an open system having a base holding a plurality of culturing beakers as well as a lid holding a tube transporting fresh seawater into each beaker, gently stirring the water within and eliminating any decaying embryos. Each beaker has at least a bottom made of mesh allowing water to flow through. The agitator can be used to culture any fragile planktonic organisms that require an extended rearing time.

System and method for analyzing video stream

A method is disclosed of analyzing a video stream using a video analyzer. The video stream includes image frame data corresponding to an integer N number of image frames, respectively. The video analyzer includes a controller and a frame processor. The method includes setting a problem threshold value corresponding to a parameter of the image frame data, receiving first image frame data corresponding to a first image frame, analyzing the parameter of a portion of the received first image frame data and generating an analyzed value and determining whether there is a problem based on the analyzed value and the problem threshold value. The portion of the analyzed portion of the received first image frame data is less than the total received first image frame data.

High frequency mixer, method and system

A thin film circuit, particularly desirable for satellite communications, mixes RF and an LO giga-hertz-range input signals to yield an IF signal by splitting the LO and RF signals into two, with a 180 degree phase shift introduced into one of the resulting signals. The LO and RF signals are then each mixed in parallel mixers. The outputs of the mixers have the IF signal with spurious (spur) signals in frequencies that are multiples of the frequencies of the RF or LO signals. The outputs are mixed together so that some of the spur signals cancel each other out and the IF signals are added in phase.
