A radio frequency (RF) communications system includes a local RF communications device and an RF antenna including a conical RF launch structure coupled to the local RF communications device, and an elongate electrical conductor having a proximal end coupled to the conical RF launch structure and a distal end spaced apart from the conical RF launch structure to define an elongate RF coverage pattern. The elongate conductor may be a coaxial cable. At least one remote RF communications device, within the elongate RF coverage pattern, wirelessly communicates with the local RF communications device.

An apparatus is disclosed herein for a cylindrically fed antenna and method for using the same. In one embodiment, the antenna comprises an antenna feed to input a cylindrical feed wave and a tunable slotted array coupled to the antenna feed.

The antenna includes a substrate, such as a dielectric material, and an electrically conductive circular ring on the substrate and having an outer diameter and an inner diameter concentrically arranged. The outer diameter is less than {fraction (1/10)} an operating wavelength, and preferably about {fraction (1/20)}^th, so that the antenna is electrically small relative to the wavelength. The inner diameter is in a range of π/6 to π/2 times the outer diameter, and preferably is π/4 times the outer diameter to enhance the gain relative to its area.

A low-loss, high-efficiency, broadband antenna including both electric and magnetic dipole radiators is provided herein. The broadband antenna may be referred to as a “P×M antenna” and may generally include a ground plane; a magnetic radiator formed within the ground plane; a conductive feed arranged within a first plane, which is parallel to the ground plane; and an electric radiator arranged within a second plane, which is perpendicular to the ground plane and coupled at one end to the conductive feed. According to a particular aspect of the invention, the electric and magnetic radiators are substantially complementary to one another and are coupled for producing a P×M radiation pattern over a broad range of operating frequencies. One advantage of the P×M antenna described herein is that the complementary antenna elements are combined without the use of a lossy, resistive matching network, thereby increasing the efficiency with which the P×M radiation pattern is produced.

A digital indoor antenna device having a casing, a pivotal seat, a circular antenna having two ends and a PCB in the casing. The pivotal seat attached to the casing has two mounting holes respectively in which the two ends of circular antenna are mounted. The circular antenna rotates on the casing to adjust the horizontal receiving angle. Therefore, the circular antenna device can receive larger intensity of horizontal polarized signals. In addition, the pivotal seat can be pivotally connected to the casing, so the circular antenna can rotate horizontally on the casing to search for different channel signals.

An RFID system comprises an intermediate device that includes a first and second antenna coils connected together in a close loop format. The coils are formed on a flexible substrate that can be folded around a magnetic flux blocker such that one loop is on side of the blocker and the other loop is on the other side of the blocker. The intermediate device can then improve communication between a reader on one side of the blocker and a tag on the other. The coil on the reader side of the blocker can receive RF signals being generated by the reader and convert them to an electrical signal that can be passed to the coil on the tag side of the blockage. The second coil can then generate an RF signal that can be transmitted to the tag.

An antenna apparatus has a ground plane and a traveling-wave linear antenna The ground plane has a dielectric layer and metallic plates disposed on the dielectric layer. The plates placed on a front side of the ground plane act as a band gap surface. The dielectric constant and thickness of the dielectric layer, the number of plates and the width of spaces among the plates are adjusted, so that the band gap surface prevents propagation of electromagnetic waves within a specific frequency band. Aspects of a method and system for identifying a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag location using a switchable coil are presented. Aspects of the systems may include one or more processors that enable selection of an inductor coil from a plurality of inductor coils. The selection of the inductor coil may be based on a change in an electromagnetic field, with respect to an initial electromagnetic field, as detected by the selected inductor coil. The processors may enable transmission of a signal, having a transmitter frequency in the UHF frequency band, via the selected inductor coil.

A millimeter wave electronically scanned antenna is disclosed in both passive and active implementations. The antenna comprises a plurality of antenna components, wherein an antenna component, includes a coupler; a ground plane; a traveling wave phase shift line electrically connected to the coupler and grounded to the ground plane; and a plurality of fixed phase shifters, each fixed phase shifter electrically connected to the traveling wave phase shift line at a respective point thereon. One such component includes a plurality of radiating elements electromagnetically connected to a respective one of the fixed phase shifters. An extremely miniaturized FM frequency band antenna built in a mobile device includes a substrate and an antenna unit. The substrate is provided with a plate having a grounding metallic surface and a first clearance surface. A second clearance surface provided on the same side of the grounding metallic surface has a metallic micro strip line. One end of the metallic micro strip line extends to a bottom end of the second clearance surface and has a first contact. The other end of the micro strip line extends onto the first clearance surface and has a second contact. Further, a third contact is provided on the first clearance surface at a position corresponding to that of the second contact. Finally, the antenna unit is electrically connected on the second and third contacts to form a FM antenna for receiving FM signals.

Techniques for implementing series-fed antenna arrays with a variable dielectric waveguide. In one implementation, coupling elements with optional controlled phase shifters are placed adjacent each radiating element of the array. To avoid frequency sensitivity of the resulting array, one or more waveguides have a variable propagation constant. The variable waveguide may use certain materials exhibiting this phenomenon, or may have configurable gaps between layers. Plated-through holes and pins can control the gaps; and/or a 2-D circular or a rectangular travelling wave array of scattering elements can be used as well.
