Laterally-actuated dispenser with one-way valve for storing and dispensing metered amounts of substances

A dispenser for dispensing a substance, such as a pharmaceutical, ophthalmic, dermatological, cosmeceutical, cosmetic or other product, has a body defining a variable-volume storage chamber for storing the product. A dispensing portion of the dispenser is connected with the body and defines a bore coupled in fluid communication with the storage chamber for receiving substance therefrom, and an outlet aperture coupled in fluid communication with the bore. A one-way valve of the dispenser includes an axially-extending valve seat and an axially-extending flexible valve cover seated on the valve seat and defining a normally-closed, axially-extending seam therebetween forming a fluid-tight seal between the valve cover and valve seat. The flexible valve cover is movable relative to the valve seat and the seam is connectable in fluid communication with the outlet aperture to allow the passage of substance through the seam and out of the dispenser. The dispenser further comprises an actuator and piston assembly including a piston receivable within the bore, a manually-engageable actuator connected to the piston for moving the piston between first and second positions relative to the bore to dispense substance within the bore through the outlet aperture, and an integral, dome-shaped spring coupled to at least one of the piston and the actuator for biasing the piston in a direction from one of the first and second positions toward the other.

Applicator

An emollient applicator particularly suited for use with liquid, semi-solid ointment or gel lip care products. The applicator tip has protrusions that may be hard or soft and resilient for exfoliating and massaging a user's lips. The dispensing tube is preferably a solid tube. The driving mechanism and applicator tip are sealed with the dispensing tube to allow for use of a liquid, semi-solid ointment or gel within the applicator.

Adhesive applicator tips with improved flow properties

An article of manufacture for dispensing an adhesive material, such as a synthetic or semi-synthetic polymerizable or cross-linkable monomer material, includes a container body, and a porous applicator tip having a proximal end that is attached to the container body, and a distal end located away from the container body, wherein the adhesive material is located in the container body in a non-contacting relationship with the applicator tip prior to dispensing the material. A flow pattern of the adhesive material within or on the applicator tip is controlled by controlling lengths of flow paths of the material through the applicator tip, forming one or more grooves in the applicator tip, providing a hollow, controlled thickness tip, and / or adding a cover surrounding at least a part but not all of an exposed area of the applicator tip.

Cosmetic applicator device

A cosmetic stick applicator for treating the lips of a person. The applicator has an elongate, tubular body with an inner chamber for storing a chemical formulation or substance such as an exfoliant, to be applied to the lips. One end of the body has an external, oblique, lip-engageable abrasive applicator surface containing a product-dispensing orifice through which the substance can be ejected. Such ejection is accomplished by means of a finger-engageable wheel that is turned to forcibly discharge the substance through the orifices and onto the applicator surface. Thereafter this surface which now contains the discharged substance, is rubbed against the lips and thus effects a scrubbing thereof, which brings about gentle and controlled exfoliation of accumulated dead skin cells. Following this, excess dead cell material can be wiped off with a tissue or pad.
The opposite end of the body is provided with a similar external, oblique, lip-engageable applicator surface also having a textured or abrasive surface configuration, whereby following the user's scrubbing or gently exfoliating the lips from the first noted abrasive surface, the applicator body can be reversed and the second applicator surface utilized to polish the lips and thus impart a smooth appearance or characteristic thereto. The advantage of the invention is that both a moderately coarse scrubbing and a gentler, polishing effect can be achieved by the use of the same applicator instrument. And, the applicator is especially compact and easy to use.
