Self-cleaning urinal anti-splash device

A self-cleaning urinal anti-splash device having a series of angled deflectors which send the urine stream ever deeper into a series of channels leading down toward the urinal drain. The angled deflectors not only send the urine stream ever deeper into the channels, but they simultaneously prevent the urine from exiting the channels in any direction other than downward toward the drain. This is accomplished by virtue of the fact that inner faces of the deflectors are adapted to deflect the urine back toward the urinal wall. No plane perpendicular to the direction of the initial urine stream is presented to the user. Gravity then causes it to flow to the drain. The device is also self cleaning because there is nothing to prevent the water of a flush cycle from passing through the vertical channels by gravity feed, thereby removing all the urine on the deflector surfaces. The device can be made of metal, plastic, rubber, or other inexpensive easily moldable substance. It has notches in the channels so the device is easily trimmed to size.

Monitoring Conditions Of A Patient's Urinary System

A monitoring system and method are presented for use in monitoring a condition of a patient's urinary system. The monitoring system comprises an acoustic assembly comprising at least one acoustic receiver adapted for receiving acoustic signals during a patient's urination and generating data indicative thereof. The monitoring system also includes a control unit that is in communication with said acoustic assembly. The control unit is configured and operable for analyzing said generated data indicative of the continuously received acoustic signals during a patient's urination, obtaining a time variation of the acoustic signal during the urination and determining a corresponding spectral data of the acoustic signal. The control unit further analyzes the spectral data and, upon detecting at least one first signal peak corresponding to a condition of turbulence in the urine flow, determining a relation between said first signal peak and a second signal peak corresponding to a condition of laminar urine flow. Based on said relation, the control unit determines the condition of a patient's low urinary system and generating output data indicative thereof.

A potting training device for preventing a potty-training child's urine stream from passing through the opening formed between the toilet seat and the toilet bowl. The device is made of a flexible, water-resistant, preferably non-porous sheet material, having a folding seam separating a urine-deflecting surface and a plurality of attachment tabs. An adhesive material is layered on the surface of each attachment tab and attaches the attachment tabs to the underside of the toilet seat. The sheet material, in its unattached flat configuration, is manipulated into a curved configuration that matches the curvature of the toilet seat, and is attached thereto. A urinal uses a sloped interior back wall to create a specific angle between an incoming urine stream and the back wall to effect an anti-splash phenomenon which involves the contact angle hysteresis and the coanda effect, thereby at least to minimize urine splashing. The contact angle hysteresis deals with the perpendicular angles at which the urine stream comes into contact with the back wall of the urinal bowl, that is the amount of angle degrees between the angle of surface of the bowl and the angle of the urine stream at the point of contact. This angle takes advantage of the Coanda effect so as to cause the fluid (urine) to run down the surface of the back wall to the bottom of the urinal, rather than splashing back. The Coanda effect is the tendency of a fluid jet to stay attached to an adjacent curved surface that is very well shaped. In one embodiment, the interior back wall is vertically sloped towards the user, at an angle greater than 20° from the vertical (e.g., 30° to accommodate a 60° urine stream), and the back wall may be further curved from side to side. In an other embodiment, the interior back wall has a undulated top-to-bottom or vertical contour.

The shape of the urine stream can be used to measure both the flow rate and orifice geometry. The measurement of the shape of the urine stream can be a useful diagnostic tool for medical practitioners since it provides a noninvasive method of measuring urine flow rate and urethral dilation. A novel diagnostic visual voiding device (VVD) measures Symptoms of Lower Urinary Tract Dysfunction (LUTD) such as urinary incontinence. The VVD consists of a lightweight foldable booth with LED lights, microphone, video cameras on left side, top, face, and container that display stream height, width, angle, distance, face grimacing, container height and flow versus time. The VVD will improve the initial diagnosis of Lower Urinary Tract Dysfunction (LUTD) and also improve LUTD by providing subsequent diagnosis after treatment. It enables the patient to video and audio record urinary voiding in privacy. The video and audio recording hardware and software enables the video and audio recording to be sent in electronic form to the urologist at a location other than where the VVD is located.
