This video introduces techniques in validating, verifying and revising your searches.

Encoding geographic coordinates in a fuzzy geographic address

A system and method for searching, accessing, retrieving, representing and browsing geographic or location related information from the Web (i.e.: HTML documents that describe physical places), including a geographic distribution of places where selectable types of resources are located or certain types of services provided. A user may select any one of the automatically mapped locations and browse the information for this location.Documents accessible through the Web are tagged with the cartographic coordinates of the physical location referenced in the document and, optionally, with attributes of this physical location. Also provided is a method for searching and retrieving the tagged documents from a computer system by queries specifying parameters such as the cartographic coordinates of a reference location, the size of the geographic area to search around this reference location, and / or attributes of the locations to search inside that geographic area.

Universal search engine

According to the invention, a search system for searching intranet datasets and Internet datasets is disclosed. Included in the search system are a first interface portion, a preference and a search translation unit. The first interface portion receives a search query from an end user. A preference indicates a target search engine referenced by the search query. The preference is modifiable by the end user. The target search engine cannot be determined from the search query alone. The target search engine may operate upon an intranet dataset or an Internet dataset. The search translation unit that determines the target search engine indicated by the preference. The search translation unit also translates the search query with a syntax used by the target search engine to create a translated search query. The search translation unit is hosted within an intranet used by the end user.

Automatic tracking of contact interactions

In the context of recruitment and sales, it is difficult to ensure that there is a consistent level of activity tracking that occurs in a Customer Relationship Management or Applicant Tracking System (CRM / ATS, tracking application, or tracking system) from one user (e.g., recruiter or sales representative) to another within a single firm. This is due in large part to the manual and time consuming mechanics of logging the activity. Example embodiments of the present invention include a mail server component that automatically logs such activity. The system determines who the email is being sent to and from, as well as whether the email contains calendar event (e.g., appointment) information. The system then searches a database to determine if the recipients of the email message are contacts in the tracking application. If a match is found, the message is automatically added to the contacts activity record as either an inbound email, outbound email, or appointment. Activity tracking is, thus, consistently maintained among all users, ensuring a higher quality of activity-based metrics.

Reverse identity profiling system with alert function

The present invention is a universal biometric monitoring system designed to locate and track terrorists, criminals, and missing or displaced persons. Via various checkpoints and a plurality of identity verification or observation ports, defining identity characteristics or biometric data is transmitted to a system that cumulatively creates a database and identity related profiles. The uses of the system are three-fold. Data is retrieved and examined in order to: Find, isolate, and restrict wanted individuals; Locate missing children; Bring order and identity resolution to groups of individuals, most specifically individuals displaced resultant to disaster situations. The system is capable of retrieving, capturing, transmitting, analyzing, and otherwise examining biometric data, cumulatively building identity profiles, and has the ability to search, match, find, trace and track identities through this system as well as set off a multiplicity of alert outputs and alarms.

Category based, extensible and interactive system for document retrieval

An integrated, automatic and open information retrieval system comprises an hybrid method based on linguistic and mathematical approaches for an automatic text categorization. It solves the problems of conventional systems by combining an automatic content recognition technique with a self-learning hierarchical scheme of indexed categories. In response to a word submitted by a requestor, said system retrieves documents containing that word, analyzes the documents to determine their word-pair patterns, matches the document patterns to database patterns that are related to topics, and thereby assigns topics to each document. If the retrieved documents are assigned to more than one topic, a list of the document topics is presented to the requestor, and the requestor designates the relevant topics. The requestor is then granted access only to documents assigned to relevant topics. A knowledge database linking search terms to documents and documents to topics is established and maintained to speed future searches. Additionally, new strategies are presented to deal with different update frequencies of changed Web sites.

Methods and systems for searching, selecting, and displaying content

Methods and systems for identifying and presenting information are described. Search results are received from a search engine. An entity associated with a networked site is selected using a selection criterion. A determination is made as to whether the listing includes a link to the networked site or includes the link to the networked site at a list position that fails to satisfy a first criterion. After determining that the link to the site associated with the entity is not included in the search result listing, or that the link to the site associated with the entity is not at a position in the search result listing that satisfies the first criterion, the search listing is modified by causing the link to the site associated with the entity to appear in a first position in the search listing. The modified search listing is displayed on a user terminal.
