30 results about "Small form-factor pluggable transceiver" patented technology

The small form-factor pluggable (SFP) is a compact, hot-pluggable network interface module used for both telecommunication and data communications applications. The form factor and electrical interface are specified by a multi-source agreement (MSA) under the auspices of the Small Form Factor Committee. It is a popular industry format jointly developed and supported by many network component vendors. The advantage of using SFPs instead of fixed interfaces (e.g. modular connectors in Ethernet switches) is that the interface port can be equipped with any suitable type of transceiver as needed.

Housing of quad small form-factor pluggable transceiver module

A housing of a Quad Small Form-Factor Pluggable transceiver module includes a metallic casing and a plurality of elastic grounding assemblies. The metallic casing has a lower casing, a plurality of partitions and an upper casing. The lower casing is connected to the upper casing. The partitions are provided between the lower casing and the upper casing at intervals, thereby separating the interior of the metallic casing into a plurality of accommodating spaces. The accommodating spaces each receives a connector of a transceiver module, thereby forming a plurality of ports. Thus, the connectors of the transceiver modules share the common housing, thereby reducing the occupied space on the circuit board and increasing the number of the transceiver modules arranged on the circuit board.

Out-of-Band Signaling Support Over Standard Optical SFP

An out-of-band to optical conversion component is provided that uses a transmit disable signal and a receive loss of signal (LOS) signal built into optical small form-factor pluggable transceiver and cable to pass the out-of-band protocol between serial attached SCSI enclosures. The transmit disable signal, when asserted, turns off the optical output, while the receive LOS signal detects the loss of signal. The out-of-band to optical conversion component sits in line on the serial attached SCSI data traffic and strips off the out-of-band signals from the serial attached SCSI expander so that only data flows over the optical cable. The out-of-band to optical conversion component sends the out-of-band signals to the other enclosure using the transmit disable pin on the small form-factor pluggable transceiver and cable. The other enclosure receives the message on the receive LOS signal and transmit it back onto the serial attached SCSI receive data pair.

Small form factor transceiver with externally modulated laser

A small form factor transceiver module that incorporates an externally modulated laser (EML). The transceiver module has a transmitter optical subassembly with a header assembly having a base with a platform extending through. The platform has a plurality of conductive traces extending through the platform for making connections on both sides of the base. A thermoelectric cooler (TEC) is used to dissipate heat from a laser within the header assembly. The TEC dissipates heat sufficiently to allow the EML to be used in the header assembly. In this manner, EMLs can be used in relatively small optical devices, including small form factor transceivers that comply with the XFP standard. The XFP modules with EMLs can be used for longer links than XFPs without EMLs. In addition, EMLs can be stabilized using TECs so that XFP modules can be used for DWDM-type applications.
