One such method comprises inserting a bone fixation device into an intramedullary space of the bone to place at least a portion of an elongate body of the fixation device in a flexible state on one side of the fracture and at least a portion of a hub on another side of the fracture, and operating an actuator to deploy at least one gripper of the fixation device to engage an inner surface of the intramedullary space to anchor the fixation device to the bone. Various hub designs are disclosed that may be used in combination with other fixation device components.

Tenodesis system

A tendon anchoring device may include an implant having a pair of spaced apart legs for straddling a tendon. A push rod removably attached to the implant may be utilized to guide and push a portion of the tendon into a pre-drilled bore in a bone. A fixation member may be slid along the push rod and threadably engage an inner surface of the pre-drilled bore to thereby anchor the tendon to the bone while a force is applied to the push rod. Once the fixation member has been installed, the push rod may be disengaged from the implant and removed from the bore. The implant may remain permanently straddled over the tendon inside of the bore.

System and method for measuring slope or tilt of a bone cut on the muscular-skeletal system

A system and method is disclosed herein for measuring bone slope or tilt of a prepared bone surface of the muscular-skeletal system. The system comprises a three-axis accelerometer for measuring position, rotation, and tilt. In one embodiment, the three-axis accelerometer can be housed in a prosthetic component that couples to a prepared bone surface. The system further includes a remote system for receiving, processing, and displaying quantitative measurements from one or more sensors. A bone is placed in extension. The three-axis accelerometer is referenced to a bone landmark of the bone when the bone is in extension. The three-axis accelerometer is then coupled to the prepared bone surface with the bone in extension. The slope or tilt of the bone surface is measured. In the example, the slope or tilt of the bone surface corresponds to at least one surface of the prosthetic component attached thereto.

Collapsible bone screw apparatus

A collapsible bone screw for healing bone fragments across a bone fracture includes an externally threaded inner screw member and an externally threaded outer screw member. The inner screw member is initially screwed into an inner bone portion. An unthreaded portion of the outer screw member is movably joined to the inner screw member. The outer screw member is screwed until it gains purchase in an outer bone portion. According to the method, the CT three-dimensional sequence image is directly processed, and precise segmentation of femur and acetabulum and acquisition of anatomical parameters are rapidly and automatically realized, so as to assist in individualized design and modeling of artificial bone prosthesis.
