Device and method for reconstruction of osseous skeletal defects

A synovial joint implantable apparatus for the reconstruction of skeletal defects with a flexible member, which is preferably resorbable, attached to a rigid structural prosthesis such as a total hip or total knee replacement implant. The cavitary space defined and surrounded by the flexible member is filled with osteoconductive and / or inductive materials which eventually matures into new column of bone. The prosthesis is supported by the bed of graft material surrounding it and is gradually unloaded as the bed matures into solid bone. The fixation of the prosthesis into native bone depends on the specific implant and the anatomic area of its use. The flexible member is secured to the margins of the prosthesis using rails, runners, sutures, or other attachment devices that prevent the escape of the bone graft and maintain an initial column of support for the implant. Should the metal implant even need removal, the reconstituted bone can be separated from the implant in such a way as to restore bone stock and facilitate future revision surgical procedures.

A tibial support structure includes a platform portion and a medullary portion that are monolithically formed as a single piece. The medullary and platform portions of the augment component are adapted to accommodate and mechanically attach to a tibial baseplate, and are individually shaped and sized to replace damaged bone stock both within the tibia, as well at the tibial proximal surface. The monolithic formation of the tibial support structure provides a strong and stable foundation for a tibial baseplate and facilitates restoration of the anatomic joint line, even where substantial resections of the proximal tibia have been made. The tibial support structure may be made of a bone-ingrowth material which facilitates preservation and rebuilding of the proximal tibia after implantation, while also preserving the restored joint line by allowing revision surgeries to be performed without removal of the tibial support structure.

Method of attaching soft tissue to bone

A method of attaching or reattaching a ligament, tendon, cartilage or other soft tissue to a bone mass has the steps of: positioning or placing the ligament, tendon, cartilage or other soft tissue adjacent to the bone mass; anchoring or otherwise fastening the ligament, tendon, cartilage or soft tissue to the bone mass; and transmitting shock waves to the ligament, tendon or other soft tissue and the bone mass. Preferably the ligament, tendon, cartilage or other soft tissue is positioned in the path of the emitted shock waves and away from geometric focal volume or point of the emitted shock waves. The shock waves may be transmitted during the surgical procedure or post operatively in one or more treatment dosages or both. In so treating the ligament, tendon, cartilage or other soft tissue should be positioned at a distance away from any geometric focal point to minimize hemorrhaging. The soft tissue may include cartilage or muscle tissue. In the case of cartilage, the tissue can be inserted into a bone mass prepared cavity and optionally anchored there by a covering bone plug.

Tight-bone positioning method for full knee-joint replacement operation by robot

The present invention proposes a femur positioning method for robotic total knee arthroplasty. First, the problem of determining the center of the femoral head is abstracted into points on a known spherical surface to solve the geometric model of the center of the sphere, and the collected data of the center of the intercondylar fossa are analyzed at any three points. Combination, the coordinate information of the center of the femoral head is determined by the numerical calculation method, and the coordinate information of the highest point of the medial epicondyle, the highest point of the lateral epicondyle and the center of the intercondylar notch are collected to establish the femoral coordinate system, and then the robot coordinate system is lowered to three The unit vectors of the coordinate axes of the femoral coordinate system form a one-to-one correspondence with the unit vectors of the three coordinate axes of the robot coordinate system. Based on this, the corresponding relationship between the robot coordinate system and the femoral coordinate system is solved and established to realize the precise positioning of the femoral part. Utilizing the positioning results of the present invention, a specific operation plan for robot total knee replacement can be designed, and the operation is performed by the robot, which simplifies the operation steps, reduces the complexity of the re-matching algorithm, and reduces the pain of the patient and the operation cost.

Bone mill assembly for use with cortical and cancellous bone

A bone mill assembly provides a drive motor with a reducer. The drive motor is connected to a non-rotating coupler which is connected to a main drive cutting head. A mill housing consists of a manual feed chute or a pneumatic feed chute that shuttles the bone stock onto the main drive cutting head of the mill. The bone stock is ground to a smaller particle size and then shuttled by rotation onto a straight secondary blade. This chops the particle size even smaller and then is sized by an internal window sieve. If the particle size is small enough, the bone particulate passes through the sieve into a collection pan. If the particle size is too large, it will then be rotated back up within the housing to be processed again by the main cutting head. Different sizes of the main cutting head are used for customer specific applications.
