Occluding guidewire and methods

Occluding guidewires to access bodily lumen of a patient are disclosed. The occluding guidewires include a slotted tube and a balloon secured to a distal end of the slotted tube. The slotted tube includes a plurality of slots. The slots are in fluid communication with a lumen defined by the slotted tube. The balloon is secured about the slotted tube over one or more slots to permit inflation media to be communicated through one or more slots from the lumen into the inflation chamber of the balloon. The occluding guidewire may also include a proximal tube. A proximal lumen of the proximal tube is in communication with the lumen of the slotted tube. The occluding guidewire may be configured with a relatively small diameter using aspects of the present inventions.

Puncture device with a flexible catheter tube for connecting to a medical infusion line

A puncture device with a flexible catheter tube for connecting to a medical infusion line, wherein the device includes a catheter connecting piece or hub attachable at the puncture site on the skin surface of a patient, wherein the catheter hub has a connector for connecting the infusion line and an outlet for the flexible catheter tube; and a needle holder having a puncture needle (stylet), wherein the flexible catheter tube is arranged in the interior of the catheter hub and extends out of the outlet with an output end. The end of the flexible catheter tube opposing the output end is located in the interior of the catheter hub in the area of the connector and is separated from the surrounding area by a septum, wherein the needle holder securely fastens the puncture needle insertable into a passage channel of the catheter tube at the end opposing the pointed or sharp puncture tip. The outlet is located at the bottom side of the catheter hub resting on the surface of the patient in the position of use and the puncture needle is made without a duct.

Transcatheter heart valve with micro-anchors

Methods and devices for treating defective heart valves are disclosed herein. In one exemplary embodiment, a transcatheter heart valve includes an expandable shape memory stent and a valve member supported by the stent. A plurality of micro-anchors can be disposed along an outer surface of the stent for engaging native tissue. The transcatheter heart valve can be configured to be advanced into a dilated valve annulus via a balloon catheter. The balloon can be inflated to expand the transcatheter heart valve from a collapsed diameter to an over-expanded diameter such that the micro-anchors engage tissue along the surrounding valve annulus. After engaging the tissue, the balloon can be deflated and the shape memory stent can retract or recoil toward its predetermined recoil diameter. As the stent recoils, the surrounding tissue is pulled inward by the stent such that the diameter of the valve annulus is reduced.

System, apparatus and method for opening an occluded lesion

A system, apparatus and method for maximizing efficiency of tissue removal from body passageways is provided. The system comprises a device for opening an occluded lesion, e.g., a rotational atherectomy device or angioplasty device, and a guide wire having an introducer sheath. The guide wire introducer sheath may comprise a hypo tube having columnar strength greater than that of the guide wire alone to assist the guide wire in crossing occluded lesions, wherein the sheath and guide wire are axially moveable relative to each other. The guide wire sheath may further comprise increased flexibility at its distal end to increase flexibility and / or a soft distal tip to help with steerability through the vasculature. The sheath may allow for a smaller outer diameter guide wire which, in turn, may allow for a smaller outer diameter on the occlusion-opening device, e.g., atherectomy or angioplasty device, which is slid over the pre-positioned guide wire.

Process tube and carrier tray

The disclosure provides a system and method to safely and efficiently store and transport process tubes in a carrier tray comprising prior to and during amplification of nucleotides in the process tubes. The process tube disclosed includes a securement region having an annular ledge, a neck, and a protrusion. The securement region of the process tube can secure the process tube in a port of the carrier tray, but still allows the process tube to adjust or float in order to align the process tube into a rigid heater well of a thermal cycler.
