Robotic tool with wristed monopolar electrosurgical end effectors

A surgical instrument for use with a robotic surgical system is described. The instrument includes an elongate shaft having a proximal end and a distal end. An electrically live wrist member is disposed at the distal end of the shaft. An electrocautery end effector is mounted to the wrist member. An interface is disposed at the proximal end of the shaft. The interface is removably connectable to the robotic surgical system. A conductor extends from the interface to the end effector so as to deliver electrical energy to tissue engaged by the end effector. A tip cover is disposed over the wrist member so that electrical current can only be conducted to tissues through the exposed end effector (e.g., to promote blood coagulation during usage) and not to other parts of the patient's body.

Occluding guidewire and methods

Occluding guidewires to access bodily lumen of a patient are disclosed. The occluding guidewires include a slotted tube and a balloon secured to a distal end of the slotted tube. The slotted tube includes a plurality of slots. The slots are in fluid communication with a lumen defined by the slotted tube. The balloon is secured about the slotted tube over one or more slots to permit inflation media to be communicated through one or more slots from the lumen into the inflation chamber of the balloon. The occluding guidewire may also include a proximal tube. A proximal lumen of the proximal tube is in communication with the lumen of the slotted tube. The occluding guidewire may be configured with a relatively small diameter using aspects of the present inventions.

Stent delivery system having a fixed guidewire

The present invention is a stent delivery system that uses short section of guidewire fixedly attached to the distal section of a balloon angioplasty catheter onto which a stent is co-axially mounted. By not having a guidewire that slides through the balloon of the balloon angioplasty catheter, the deflated balloon on which the stent is mounted can have a reduced diameter. Therefore, the outer diameter of the pre-deployed stent mounted onto that balloon is also minimized. This provides a smaller profile, i.e., a smaller outer diameter, for the stent. The time to perform a stent delivery procedure is reduced; a separate guidewire does not have to be placed prior to using the stent delivery system to place the stent at the site of a stenosis. Another embodiment of the present invention has a core wire that extends for nearly the entire length of the stent delivery system, the guidewire having different levels of stiffness for different portions of the core wire's length.

The end of the flexible catheter tube opposing the output end is located in the interior of the catheter hub in the area of the connector and is separated from the surrounding area by a septum, wherein the needle holder securely fastens the puncture needle insertable into a passage channel of the catheter tube at the end opposing the pointed or sharp puncture tip. The outlet is located at the bottom side of the catheter hub resting on the surface of the patient in the position of use and the puncture needle is made without a duct.

Bifurcate Stent Delivery Catheter

A bifurcate stent delivery catheter is disclosed that includes a proximal shaft and two distal shaft branches having a bifurcated stent mounted thereon, wherein one or more conventional balloon catheters may be advanced within lumens of the bifurcate catheter to deploy the bifurcated stent. Since no balloons are mounted on the bifurcate catheter, the clinician may use any combination of balloon sizes for deploying various portions of the bifurcated stent and thus custom-select appropriate balloon sizes to best treat the bifurcation. Once a conventional balloon catheter is positioned within a distal shaft branch of the bifurcate stent delivery catheter, each of the distal shaft branches of the bifurcate catheter are constructed to split or otherwise expand in a controlled manner upon expansion of the balloon catheter in order to allow the bifurcated stent to be expanded or deployed.

Transcatheter heart valve with micro-anchors

ActiveUS20130268066A1Risk of damageOption very attractiveStentsBalloon catheterHeart valveNative tissue
Methods and devices for treating defective heart valves are disclosed herein. In one exemplary embodiment, a transcatheter heart valve includes an expandable shape memory stent and a valve member supported by the stent. A plurality of micro-anchors can be disposed along an outer surface of the stent for engaging native tissue. The transcatheter heart valve can be configured to be advanced into a dilated valve annulus via a balloon catheter. The balloon can be inflated to expand the transcatheter heart valve from a collapsed diameter to an over-expanded diameter such that the micro-anchors engage tissue along the surrounding valve annulus. After engaging the tissue, the balloon can be deflated and the shape memory stent can retract or recoil toward its predetermined recoil diameter. As the stent recoils, the surrounding tissue is pulled inward by the stent such that the diameter of the valve annulus is reduced.
