Apparatus and method for thermal ablation of uterine fibroids

The present invention relates to apparatus and methods for thermally ablating uterine fibroids. More particularly, the present invention relates to a conduit having a plurality of channels for delivering a plurality of thermal ablation probes to an organic target such as a uterine fibroid, the probes being delivered in such configuration and orientation as to enable efficient and thorough ablation of the fibroid. In a preferred embodiment, the conduit is formed as a sleeve having a large central lumen sized to accommodate a hysteroscope, channels sized to accommodate cryoprobes are used as thermal ablation probes, and comprises thermal insulation materials serving to protect the cervix from damage by cold. The present invention further relates to bent cryoprobes usable in conjunction with such a conduit and designed to exit therefrom in a desired configuration useful for ablating a large fibroid.

An electrosurgical forceps is provided with a shaft that extends from a housing of the electrosurgical forceps. An end effector assembly operably coupled to the shaft includes a pair of first and second jaw members. One or both of the first and second jaw members is movable from an open configuration, to a clamping configuration. A knife blade assembly includes a knife blade translatable within the first and second jaw members. A knife blade lockout mechanism is in operative communication with the knife blade assembly and includes an elongated cam slot with a cam pin translatable therein from a distal end of the elongated cam slot corresponding to the knife blade lockout mechanism engaged with the knife blade assembly, to a proximal position corresponding to the knife blade lockout mechanism disengaged from the knife blade assembly.

Vascular embolic filter devices and methods of use therefor

ActiveUS20060004405A1Facilitate adjustment and optimal positioningReduce uncollected emboliStentsSurgeryEmbolusBiomedical engineering
Vascular embolic filtering devices and systems, as well as methods for using the same, are provided. The embolic filtering device includes a guide wire and an associated embolic filter for capturing emboli created during interventional procedures within a target vessel. Features of the subject devices and system provide for delivering of the guide wire independently of the filter, rotating of the guide wire with respect to the filter and limiting or preventing the proximal translation of the filter with respect to the guide wire. The embolic filter is attached to a sheath having either a shorter-length configuration or an extended-length configuration. The guide wire comprises a proximal stop mechanism engageable with the sheath to limit at least the proximal translation of the embolic filter. The subject embolic filter systems provide such guide wires and embolic filters, as well as and an embolic filter delivery, deployment and removal assembly. The methods of the present invention provide for the use of the subject devices and systems.

Relative axial translation prevention system

A windshield wiper blade assembly is disclosed which comprises a resilient wiper blade having an axial passage through which a flexible support beam is positioned to provide structure. A universal connector element for connecting the blade assembly to a plurality of different wiper arms crimps onto the blade and support beam assembly approximately midway along the wiper blade in a manner which does not puncture nor interfere with the resilient windshield wiper material, while at the same time preventing the relative axial translation of the support beam within the windshield wiper blade as well as translation between the blade and the connector itself.

Logical partitioning via hypervisor mediated address translation

A method, system, and apparatus for mediating address translation in a logically partitioned data processing system is provided. In one embodiment, a firmware component receives from an operating system within a logical partition a request to access a physical resource. The firmware component, responsive to a determination that the physical resource has been allocated to the logical partition, modifies an address translation table, if necessary, to allow access to the physical resource by the operating system. The operating system is prevented from directly modifying the address translation table, thus preventing potential interference between operating systems within the logically partitioned data processing system.

The current invention provides for methods and medicaments that apply oligonucleotide molecules complementary only to a repetitive sequence in a human gene transcript, for the manufacture of a medicament for the diagnosis, treatment or prevention of a cis-element repeat instability associated genetic disorders in humans. The invention hence provides a method of treatment for cis-element repeat instability associated genetic disorders. The invention also pertains to modified oligonucleotides which can be applied in method of the invention to prevent the accumulation and / or translation of repeat expanded transcripts in cells.
