Massage device

InactiveUS7044924B1Improve overall senseQuicker inflation dynamicPneumatic massageGarmentsFluid controlMassage
A massage device for massaging a body part of a person in an unsupervised and unattended setting. The massage device includes a garment, shaped to provide a snug fit and having a plurality of bladders arranged along the garment to massage the body part. An inflation assembly supplies fluid pressure to each of the bladders to inflate the respective bladders. The bladders may have approximately the same inflated volume thereby equalizing the inflation volume of the respective bladders whereby substantially even inflation timing, with substantially even applied pressure, and, thus, overall smooth massage dynamics may be provided without overly complicated inflation fluid control (e.g., an inflation assembly which supplies a substantially constant inflation capacity to each of the bladders). The garment may include a pocket having an opening communicating with the respective bladders and tubing from the inflation assembly extends into this pocket. The inflation assembly may provide throttled deflation flow, tapered inflation / deflation patterns, and / or a zone selector which allows a user to select a certain zone of the garment.

Tire inflation system apparatus and method

A tire inflation system includes an air supply source in selective fluid communication with a tire via a pneumatic conduit. A method of inflating the system includes providing a tire pressure retention valve in the pneumatic conduit adjacent to the tire. An inflation pressure of the tire is determined with a step-up procedure, in which air bursts are communicated from the air supply source to a portion of the pneumatic conduit between the air supply source and the tire pressure retention valve. The volume of at least one selected communicated air burst is related to a volume of a section of the conduit. The tire is inflated with an extended-pulse procedure, in which extended bursts of air are communicated from the air supply source to the tire. A shut-down sequence is performed once a predetermined target inflation pressure in the tire is reached.

Multiple chamber airbags and methods

InactiveUS6962363B2Low amount and weightMinimally labor-intensive to manufacturePedestrian/occupant safety arrangementEngineeringSingle chamber
A two or more chambered airbag provides much improved safety and / or performance. A modified single chamber airbag can be used as the primary chamber of the two-chamber airbag. A piece of fabric of appropriate size is sewn to the inside or outside surface of the front panel of the primary chamber to create the secondary chamber. One or more apertures are opened between the primary and secondary chambers. In order for the secondary chamber to inflate properly, the tethers of the primary chamber are shortened to 50% to 80% of their original length. The size or location of the tether sewing to the inner surface of the front panel of the primary chamber is also adjusted to create a desired shape of the secondary chamber when deployed.

Protective helmet having a microprocessor controlled response to impact

InactiveUS8127373B1Prevent the brain from hitting the skullReduce impactHatsPersonal protection gearEngineeringStrain gauge
A method and system for reducing the concussive effects of impact. The system includes a helmet for protecting the head of a user. The helmet has a surface, an array of strain gauges attached on the surface for detecting an impact, an array of cells attached within the helmet and a fluid reservoir in fluid communication with the cells. Each cell is selectively inflatable to redirect impact forces to the shell of the helmet, and selectively deflatable to cushion a users head during impact. The process of inflation and deflation is enabled and optimized through the use of a microprocessor connected in operative communication with the array of strain gauges and with the valves. Accordingly, when the system detects impact, the microprocessor selectively signals at least some of the valves to rapidly change pressure in the cells near the impact.

Inflatable chamber device for motion through a passage

A self-propelled device for locomotion through a lumen, comprising a set of serially arranged inflatable chambers, adjacent chambers being fluidly connected, and a fluid source attached to one end of the set, such that the chambers inflate sequentially. The chambers are constructed of an elastic material and have a wall thickness and dimensions such that they have a characteristic with a non-monotonous relationship between the inflation pressure within the chamber and the chamber's inflated size. The characteristic is such that after an initial inflation pressure peak, the non-monotonous relationship adopts a negative slope, such that the volume of the chamber increases more rapidly than the volume of fluid flowing into it, and the inflation pressure of the chamber falls. This effect causes the chamber to inflate and anchor rapidly, while essentially slowing down the inflation of the succeeding chamber until inflation of the first is complete.

Air pump for inflatable article

An air pump for an inflatable article has a housing and a blower, a switch assembly and an air valve mounted in the housing. The switch assembly has a slider and a driving device sliding the slider and the air valve to switch operating modes of the air pump. Thus, the air pump inflates or deflates the inflatable article or maintains or fine-tunes the air pressure inside the inflatable article. Therefore, the first and second openings of the housing are disposed on the housing for connection to different kinds of inflatable articles and the airflow directly flows through the air pump so inflating and deflating the inflatable article is fast.

An air pump manually rotated to inflate and deflate an air mattress has a housing, a first and a second air vents mounted on the housing, an air valve selectively actuated to block or open the second air vent, and a mounting rack in the housing. The mounting rack is rotated so that a first or a second air compartment in the mounting rack is aligned with the second air vent, and the air valve is propped up by an undulant baffle on the mounting rack to switch to one of inflation, deflation and pressure hold-up modes. Given the structure of the air pump, the first and second air vents are flexibly arranged and can be respectively mounted on a top and a bottom of the housing and directly aligned with mutually. Therefore, the air path is shortened to make the inflation and deflation faster and more efficient.

Hybrid inflator

The present invention provides a hybrid inflator in which ignitability of a gas generating agent is improved. A combustion chamber housing 40 storing a gas generating agent 41 is provided inside a cylindrical housing 11 charged with helium. The combustion chamber housing 40 is connected to an igniter housing 20 via a first rupturable plate 50. Since the diameter of the first rupturable plate 50 and the inner diameter of the combustion chamber housing 40 are substantially equal, ignition energy from an igniter 22 passes into the combustion chamber housing 40 efficiently, thus improving the ignitability of the gas generating agent.
