Method for resecting the knee using a resection guide and provisional prosthetic component

A method and apparatus for knee replacement surgery wherein a femoral provisional component is provided which corresponds to a permanent component to be implanted in a human and which includes means for establishing the correct fit and position of such a component, prior to its implantation, in relation to the soft tissues of the knee before final resection of the anterior femoral surface. The provisional component further includes cutting guide means for such anterior surface resection such that accurate cuts may be made with the provisional component in place. The method involves preparing the distal femoral surface using the femoral intramedullary canal as a constant reference point for posterior and distal cutting guides followed by locating the provisional component by means of a provisional intramedullary stem so that the relationship with the soft tissues of the knee may be accurately established.

Shape-Retaining Fiber Optic Cables Having Limited Bend Radius

ActiveUS20080008430A1Easy to transformAcceptable bend radiusFibre mechanical structuresFiberEngineering
In accordance with this invention, fiber optic cables are provided whose shape may be formed and retained while maintaining a limited bend radius. These features are produced by incorporating a compact compliant internal cable member into the cable structure. The compliant internal member consists not only of the fiber optic cable, but also of ductile and non-ductile elements. The ductile element is advantageously a tube or a wire which readily deforms to retain a given shape, and may be reshaped if desired. The non-ductile element, which resists sharp bending of the cable during shaping, comprises a substantially non-ductile elongated element disposed within the cable and configured to oppose excessively sharp bending along its length. Proper selection of the cross-sections and materials used in these elongated members produces a proper balance between shape retention and bending radius.

Light source and display device

The invention provides electroluminescent (EL) elements, such that a red EL light source, a green EL light source and a blue EL light source emit red color light, green color light, and blue color light, respectively, and are disposed at the rear of liquid crystal display elements. Each EL light source includes an organic EL element in which an organic thin film emits light. Each EL light source has a structure in which an organic luminescent layer is sandwiched between an indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode and a metal electrode which have striped patterns which are orthogonal to each other, and sections (luminescent sections) at which the striped patterns of the ITO electrode and the metal electrode intersect with each other emit light. The luminescent sections are arrayed two-dimensionally on a glass substrate and illuminate the entire display area of the liquid crystal display element.

Control apparatus for hybrid vehicle

In a control apparatus for a hybrid vehicle which is able to travel under the driving force from at least one of an internal-combustion engine E and a drive motor connected to the internal-combustion engine, when an FI / AT / MGECU and a MOTECU execute motor damping which generates a torque for suppressing the torque vibration of the internal-combustion engine, in the motor M, the MOTECU corrects a motor torque calculating battery terminal current value obtained by multiplying an input-output current ABAT of the battery, by an offset value corresponding to the motor damping, and executes zero power control based on the corrected motor torque calculating battery current value. As a result, the input and output power of the power storage unit are accurately balanced and overcharge or overdischarge of the battery based on the input-output current ABAT of the battery including errors due to the damping control or the motor torque calculating battery current value, is avoided.

Femoral component and instrumentation

A method for setting the internal-external rotational position of a prosthetic femoral component with respect to the tibial comprising: forming a cylindrical surface on the posterior femoral condyles, said cylindrical surface formed about an axis extending in a proximal distal direction with respect to the femur; placing a template having a cylindrical guide surface for engaging said posterior femoral condyles against a planar resected surface of the distal femur with said guide surfaces in contact with said cylindrically shaped posterior condyles; and rotating said template on said cylindrical guide surface as the knee joint is moved from flexion to extension until the template cylindrical guide surfaces are in a position with respect to the tibial condyle surfaces to properly balance the knee ligaments.

Current sense amplifier

A high-speed current sense amplifier has complementary reference cells and load devices that eliminate capacitive mismatch contributions. The current sense amplifier includes a voltage comparator, a first clamping device coupled between a first input of the voltage comparator and a first input signal node. The first clamping device is coupled to a reference voltage. A second clamping device is coupled between the second input of the voltage comparator and a second input signal node. The second clamping device is also coupled to the reference voltage. A current mirror is coupled between the first and second input of the voltage comparator and is coupled to an active capacitance balancing circuit. The active capacitance balancing circuit may be combined with the voltage comparator. Equalization devices may be coupled between the first and second inputs of the voltage comparator, and between the first input signal node and the second input signal node.
