An assembly including a support housing and an actuator device. The actuator device includes an extendable initiator cup including at least one non-random fold and at least in part defining a storage chamber containing a reactive charge reactable to produce reaction products. The extendable initiator cup longitudinally extends from a first length to a second, greater length upon reaction initiation of the reactive charge. The extendable initiator cup is at least partially disposed within a longitudinally extending bore of the support housing. The support housing is effective to limit lateral expansion of the extendable initiator cup upon reaction initiation of the reactive charge. The assembly can include an electrical conductive member or an electrical switch. The extendable initiator cup can extend to sever the electrical conductive member or disengage the electrical switch, thereby interrupting the conduction of electricity through an electrical system. Alternatively, the extendable initiator cup can extend to engage the electrical switch thereby allowing the conduction of electricity through an electrical system.

A shorting switch eliminates arcing faults in power distribution equipment. The shorting switch includes an insulating tubular housing; a first contact; a second contact; and an insulator between the first and second contacts in the insulating housing. The insulator prevents electrical connection of the first and second contacts. First and second terminals are respectively electrically connected to the first and second contacts. A wave spring mechanism moves the first and second contacts toward closure. A slug and an activated charge mechanism drive the insulator from between the first and second contacts, in order to electrically connect the first and second contacts.

The bullet assembly is disposed in the pressure chamber and structured to move between a first position, where the bullet assembly is spaced from the first and second conductors, and a second position, where the bullet assembly contacts, and is in electrical communication with, the first and second conductors.

The arrangement further comprises a disconnect switch arranged at each battery module, wherein the disconnect switch arranged at the at least one bypassed battery module is controllable to disconnect the at least one detected battery module from remaining battery modules, either simultaneously as, or after, the bypassing of the detected battery module.

The disclosure relates to a method for quenching a fault arc in a medium-voltage and high-voltage switchgear assembly, in which at least one shorting element is connected between the phases of a three-phase distribution board. In order to allow more reliable fault arc quenching in this case, the disclosure proposes that the fault arc is detected by means of sensors and an explosive charge which acts directly on the shorting switching element fires the shorting switching element at a conical contact structure which is connected to the three-phase conductors and is configured in a complementary manner to the shorting switching element, in such a manner that the complementary contours of the shorting switching element and of the three-phase conductors result in self-locking retention in the shorting position, without any holding force.

Vacuum arc interrupter actuated by a gas generated driving force

A vacuum arc interrupter that includes a vacuum chamber assembly and a pressure chamber assembly. The vacuum chamber assembly includes a first, fixed contact disposed within the vacuum chamber and a second, movable contact disposed within the vacuum chamber. A rod is coupled to, and in electrical communication with, the second contact. The rod is structured to move between a first position wherein the second contact is spaced from the first contact and a second position where the first and second contacts are in electrical communication with each other. The pressure chamber assembly has a gas generation device and a cylindrical barrel defining a pressure chamber with a first end and a second end. The barrel second end has an opening. A piston assembly is disposed in the pressure chamber and coupled to the rod, which passes through the second, open end. The gas generation device is coupled to the pressure chamber assembly and in fluid communication with the barrel and the piston assembly. Upon generation of a gas by the gas generation device, the piston moves within the barrel causing the rod to move from the first position to the second position.

A circuit breaker for multi-phase power includes an opening-closing apparatus configured to open and close each phase of the multiphase power, a detection unit configured to detect a fault current in at least one phase of an electrical installation being protected by the circuit breaker, a plurality of connecting bars disposed on a load side of the circuit breaker, and a short circuiter disposed on the connecting bars and configured to produce a short circuit between the connecting bars if a fault current is detected by the fault-current detection unit. When a fault current occurs, a tripping signal can be transmitted by the detection system to the short circuiter. The circuit breaker is also fully operational, even without a function-activated short circuiter.

The switching device applied to low voltage, medium voltage and high voltage short circuit arc extinction has the advantage that the locking reliability is higher.

Bypass switch assembly

A mechanical switch in the form of a bypass switch assembly is arranged between two electrical conductors (busbars) and stays open during normal operation. When a cell fault happens, the fault and bypass information is transmitted to an actuator (acting as a trigger circuit) which activates inter alia a gas generator producing huge volume of gas in a very short time. The gas pressure pushes a movable member to bridge the two electrical conductors with ultrafast speed.
