Bicycle suspension assembly

A bicycle suspension assembly may be in the form of a bicycle front suspension fork. The suspension fork may include a pair of telescoping fork legs. In one arrangement, a suspension spring and a damper are provided in only one of the pair of fork legs. The suspension spring assembly may include a negative spring. In one arrangement, the negative spring is a dual stage negative gas spring in which a negative spring gas chamber includes a first chamber section and a second chamber section. The first chamber section and the second chamber section are uncoupled in a first position of the suspension spring and the first chamber section and the second chamber section are coupled in a second position of the suspension spring.

Positive lock adjustable seat post

A method and apparatus for a seat post assembly that is adjustable to an upper, intermediate, and lower seat post position using a locking member and a sleeve member coupled to an actuator for securing and releasing an inner tube with respect to an outer tube. The actuator may move the sleeve member to release the locking member from engagement with the outer tube to adjust the inner tube and thus the seat post assembly to the upper, intermediate, or lower seat post positions. The actuator and the sleeve may be biased into an initial position that urges the locking member into engagement with outer tube to lock the inner tube to the outer tube.

Pivotless rear suspension system for bicycles

An improved bicycle rear suspension system with a triangular wheel suspension component comprising three members; a planar truss chainstay member with a wide lateral side and a thin vertical side, adapted to be longitudinally and laterally rigid and vertically flexible; a seatstay member with an integrated shock absorbing means adapted to dampen the suspension movement, the shock absorbing means being a long-travel, short-length shock absorber with angular deflection capability; and a seat tube member, arranged in a triangular configuration wherein one, two, or all three junctions between the members are pivotless, thereby eliminating rotating pivot elements and providing a low maintenance requirement, durability, high reliability, low manufacturing costs, progressive springing and damping, a comfortable ride, a compact size, and light weight, while increasing lateral and torsional rigidity and wheel travel, and maintaining the strength and aesthetic appeal of the traditional diamond frame.

Integrated and self-contained suspension assembly having an on-the-fly adjustable air spring

An integrated and self-contained suspension assembly having a gas spring integrated with a shock absorber (damper) is described. The rigid gas cylinder of the air spring is divided into a first gas chamber and a second gas chamber. A flow port connects the first and second gas chambers, and can be manually opened or closed by valve and a simple one-quarter turn rotation of an external knob to instantly switch the gas spring between two different spring rates. The different spring rates are functions of the separate or combined volumes of the two gas chambers. The integrated suspension assembly is compactly packaged and self-contained, i.e., does not require any externalities, such as gas sources or electricity, to operate.

Scooter and steering system

A scooter has a front support frame that is pivotally connected to a scooter deck. A pair of front wheels are each operably mounted the front support frame via wheel pivots. At least one spring is operably mounted between the front support frame and the scooter deck for biasing the scooter deck towards a horizontal configuration, but enabling the scooter deck to move to a leaning configuration when turning. A steering transmission arm transmits lateral movement via a pair of steering rods to the front wheels, so that when the scooter deck is leaned to one of the leaning configurations, the movement causes the steering transmission arm to turn the front wheels via the steering rods.

Shock Absorber with Compliant Members

The present invention provides a shock absorber with compliant members. Shock absorption is provided by the bending and rebound of curved, flexible arms. The deflection and the damping capabilities of the shock absorber are determined by the dimensions, curvature, and material modulus of elasticity of these compliant members. The shock absorber with compliant members technology may be applied to a bicycle front fork shock absorber and a rear shock absorber, both described herein. The benefits of a shock absorber with compliant members are that it is light-weight, it is simple in design, it has few movable joints, it can be designed to have precise flexion and damping characteristics, and it is resilient in harsh conditions.

Motortricycle with oscillation mechanism

InactiveUS7172045B2Reduce weightDecrease inertial weightCyclesCycle springsEngineeringBody frame
A motortricycle with oscillation mechanism including left and right suspension arms respectively swingably mounted onto a vehicle body frame, rear wheels mounted respectively onto the outer portions of the left and right suspension arms. An oscillation mechanism permitting leftward and rightward oscillation of the vehicle body frame relative to the side of the suspension arms is provided between the suspension arms and the vehicle body frame, and an engine for driving the left and right rear wheels is mounted onto the vehicle body frame. Since the engine of the motortricycle is mounted on the vehicle body frame rather than on the suspension arms, weight on the suspension arms can be largely reduced, and the riding comfort can be further enhanced.

Bicycle damper

A damper for a bicycle, having a primary unit including a damper tube, a piston rod that supports a main piston, a reservoir tube that is outside of the compression chamber of the primary tube, and an inertial valve within the reservoir tube. The damper also includes a flow path connecting the reservoir fluid chamber and the compression chamber of the primary tube. The damper also may have a damping valve in the reservoir tube. When the inertia valve is open, the damping valve opens before flow through the inertia valve is maximized. The main piston and the damper tube at least partially define a compression chamber and a rebound chamber. The main piston is movable within the damper chamber of the primary unit. The reservoir tube includes a reservoir fluid chamber. The inertial valve is responsive to terrain-induced forces and not responsive to rider-induced forces when the shock absorber is assembled to the bicycle.

A suspension system disposed in a bicycle fork. The suspension system includes inner and outer tubes, first and second bushings, a steering mechanism and a shock-absorbing mechanism. The first and second bushings are disposed between the inner and outer tubes to facilitate the sliding of the inner tube within the outer tube. The steering mechanism prevents relative rotation between the inner and outer tubes and is disposed between the first and second bushings. With this configuration, the ratio of the bushing length to the inner tube diameter is greater than 4, resulting in the suspension fork handling most lateral loads without binding.
