50 results about "Problem identification" patented technology

Definition: Problem Identification. With the increase in cut throat competition and commoditizing of a large number of products, marketers need to target the customer with products that best help solve the consumer’s problem. Often certain products make a consumer realize the existing problem that they never visualized before.

Method for real-time visualization of BGP analysis and trouble-shooting

The present invention comprises a multi-tier system. Major goals of the system are to 1) clearly visualize BGP dynamics and alert / report important deviation of BGP dynamics to avoid overwhelming the operators with too much information and 2) analyze the root cause of the problems by using a multi-tier approach, with a light-computational analysis and high-level classification for a real-time problem identification followed by a more rigorous off-line analysis for a further and more detailed trouble shooting. An example embodiment is provided that comprises four modules. The first module comprises a distributed family of collectors in charge of collecting real-time network information. The second module filters out non-relevant prefixes and extracts and profiles key features of the network information. The third module monitors BGP activity from both an Internet-AS and single-AS perspectives by displaying the data in real time and highlighting major shifts or divergence from historical baselines with comprehensive layouts. The forth module is run off-line to focus on a few relevant events that are selected through the first three modules. This is usually a time-consuming phase of the process due to the different temporal and / or spatial correlation that must be run across several sets of data. During this phase, the system can spend more time to better identify the real cause of the problem.

System and method for monitoring a voice over internet protocol (VoIP) system

A system and method for sending long distance telephone calls over the Internet utilizes cost and quality of service data to optimize system performance and to minimize the cost of completing the calls. In addition, the system could utilize a problem identification and analysis system to automatically identify potential problems with system assets. The problem identification and analysis system would compare long term averages of call data and call metrics to short term averages for the same data and metrics. Significant discrepancies between the short term averages and the long term averages would be used to pinpoint potential problems with system assets.

Apparatus and method for event correlation and problem reporting

An apparatus and method is provided for efficiently determining the source of problems in a complex system based on observable events. By splitting the problem identification process into two separate activities of (1) generating efficient codes for problem identification and (2) decoding the problems at runtime, the efficiency of the problem identification process is significantly increased. Various embodiments of the invention contemplate creating a causality matrix which relates observable symptoms to likely problems in the system, reducing the causality matrix into a minimal codebook by eliminating redundant or unnecessary information, monitoring the observable symptoms, and decoding problems by comparing the observable symptoms against the minimal codebook using various best-fit approaches. The minimal codebook also identifies those observable symptoms for which the greatest benefit will be gained if they were monitored as compared to others.By defining a distance measure between symptoms and codes in the codebook, the invention can tolerate a loss of symptoms or spurious symptoms without failure. Changing the radius of the codebook allows the ambiguity of problem identification to be adjusted easily. The invention also allows probabilistic and temporal correlations to be monitored. Due to the degree of data reduction prior to runtime, extremely large and complex systems involving many observable events can be efficiently monitored with much smaller computing resources than would otherwise be possible.

System and method for classifying defects in and identifying process problems for an electrical circuit

A method for performing circuit defect analysis and process problem identification includes applying a test signal to a circuit, obtaining a signal generated in response to the test signal, comparing the response signal to reference information, classifying a defect in the circuit based on a result of the comparing step, and identifying a problem in a manufacturing process which caused the defect based on the classification. The reference information may include one or more signal profiles corresponding to predefined types of defects that can occur during the manufacturing process. Defect classification is preferably performed by determining whether the response signal falls within one or more of the signal profiles. If the response signal falls within two or more signal profiles, then probabilities may be determined for each profile. The defect may then be classified as corresponding to the defect type whose signal profile has the highest probability. A processing system performs defect classification and process problem identification using a similar approach.
