A gastrectomy is a partial or total surgical removal of the stomach.

Tool assembly for leak resistant tissue dissection

A tool assembly for leak resistant dissection of tissue includes an anvil and a cartridge housing a plurality of staples. The anvil and cartridge have a linear longitudinal portion and a transverse portion positioned distally of the longitudinal portion. The linear longitudinal portion of the cartridge and anvil assemblies is substantially longer than the curved distal portion. In use, when a surgical procedure is performed that requires a plurality of cutting operations, e.g., a gastrectomy procedure, the first cutting operation is performed to form a substantially linear cut line having a curved distal portion that curves towards a specimen side of the organ, e.g., the stomach. In each subsequent cutting operation, the proximal portion of the tool assembly is positioned with the existing cut line such that a termination point of the existing cut line is positioned on the specimen side of the tissue or organ being partially removed.

Methods and devices for performing gastrectomies and gastroplasties

Methods and devices are provided for performing gastrectomies and gastroplasties. In one embodiment, a method includes gaining access to a stomach of a patient through an opening formed in the patient's abdominal wall and an opening formed in the patient's vaginal wall. Tissue attached to the stomach can be tensioned using a surgical instrument inserted through one of the abdominal and vaginal openings and can be separated from the stomach to free the stomach fundus using a dissecting surgical instrument inserted through another opening, e.g., through one of the abdominal and vaginal openings. The fundus can be at least partially transected using a surgical stapler inserted through one of the abdominal and vaginal openings, thereby forming a stomach “sleeve.” In another embodiment, the method is modified to form another opening in the patient's abdominal wall instead of forming an opening in the vaginal wall.

Method and Apparatus for Gastrointestinal Tract Ablation to Achieve Loss of Persistent and/or Recurrent Excess Body Weight Following a Weight-Loss Operation

Devices and methods are provided for ablational treatment of regions of the digestive tract in post-bariatric surgery patients who fail to achieve or maintain the desired weight loss. Bariatric procedures include Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, biliopancreatic diversion, and sleeve gastrectomy. These procedures reconstruct gastrointestinal tract features, creating pouches, stoma, and tubes that restrict and / or divert the digestive flow. Post-surgical dilation of altered structures is common and diminishes their bariatric effectiveness. Ablation of compromised structures can reduce their size and compliance, restoring bariatric effectiveness. Ablation, as provided the invention, starts at the mucosa and penetrates deeper into the gastrointestinal wall in a controlled manner. Control may also be provided by a fractional ablation that ablates some tissue within a target region and leaves a portion substantially unaffected. Embodiments of the device include an ablational electrode array that spans 360 degrees and an array that spans an arc of less than 360 degrees.

The invention relates to an orogastric catheter for a longitudinal gastrectomy. The object of the invention is to make available an orogastric catheter that represents an advantageous alternative to the poorly suited catheters used today and that facilitates the work of the surgeon. This novel orogastric catheter is characterized in that this distal part carries a balloon (25) which, in the inflated state, has a shape substantially matching that of the pyloric antrum (4), in such a way as to be able to be lodged in this pyloric antrum (4), the end of the inflated balloon (25) then being in abutment against the pylorus (5), and the distal end of the body of the catheter (20) for its part being in abutment against the pyloric antrum (4), while the part of the body (21) of the catheter (20) arranged above the inflated balloon (25) is wedged against the wall of the lesser curvature (6) of the stomach (1), thus making it possible to determine the position of the start of the closure resection line in the area of the pyloric antrum (4), to define the closure resection line, and to calibrate the pyloric antrum (4) and the gastric sleeve to be preserved.

Gastric tube guiding catheter special for laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy

PendingCN110064123ARealize adjustableEasy and convenient operationBalloon catheterGuide wiresPylorusGastrectomy
The invention discloses a gastric tube guiding catheter special for laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. The gastric tube guiding catheter is characterized by comprising a pulling piece arranged in a gastric tube guiding catheter body. The thin side wall of the portion near the tail end of the gastric tube guiding catheter body is bent towards the thick side wall of the catheter body when being pulledby the pulling piece. The arrangement of the pulling piece realizes the adjustment of the bending degree of the guiding tail end of the gastric tube guiding catheter body relative to the gastric tubeguiding catheter body. The diameter of the tail end of the guiding catheter body is reduced, and therefore the guiding catheter can pass through the duodenum from the pylorus conveniently, and balloons are arranged at the tail end of the guiding catheter body; the balloons are expanded after being inflated and then can be used for fixing the gastric tube for facilitating surgery operation. An indicator lamp is arranged at the tail end so that the position of the gastric tube can be conveniently determined during surgery. The catheter body is arranged at a gastric terminal part, the balloons are arranged in sections, and different balloons are inflated to guide different parts which are 2 cm, 4 cm and 6 cm away from the pylorus, so that a precise starting point for cutting the stomach is conveniently selected according to different conditions of patients during surgery.

Gastric band for laparoscopic gastric banding

A gastric band for laparoscopic gastric banding includes a band having a latch portion and a latch element which is fixed to the latch portion when the band is encircled. A filler bag is disposed on the inner circumferential surface of the band. A protecting saddle extends axially from the lateral end of the band and is located corresponding to the filler bag. For gastric band plicaton, the stomach is plicated to form a large gastric pouch and a plicated portion. For laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, a part of the stomach is removed to form the stomach to be a small sleeve shape, and the incision location is sewed. The filler bag is covered below the connecting position of the patient's stomach and esophagus by the band, and the protecting saddle is covered onto the plicated portion or incision location to prevent the patient from overeating.
