External fixation apparatus and method

A bone fixation apparatus and method are provided that allow a user to push bone pins into engagement with bones with more precision and accurate feel as to proper engagement and the clamping forces between the pins and bone over prior devices utilizing applicator guns and the like. Fine tuning of the clamping forces is also contemplated. Compact and highly ergonomic bone fixators are provided which allow the user to remain close to the pin application site during clamping of the pins onto the bone. Significant flexiblity is preferably incorporated by having two adjustably connected positioner bodies which can each mount a pin holder module releasably attached thereto. A fixation system with improved rigidity is also provided by way of independent clamping members for each of a pair of rod mounts on each pin positioner. The independent clamp members keeps their size to a minimum while allowing the angular separation of connecting rods secured in the rod mounts and spanning and interconnecting two fixators to be optimized, e.g. approximately eighty degree angular spacing, from a system stability standpoint.

An external foot / ankle fixation device has a one-piece frame component and a positionable cross bar that allows the attachment of generally anterior / posterior directed fixation wires or rods emanating from the foot / ankle of a patient. The external fixation device provides a stable fixation platform both in-plane and out-of-plane of the object of fixation (e.g. foot or ankle). The fixation device through the cross bar also provides various degrees of angulation of anterior / posterior directed wires in two planes. Posterior angulation components may be provided to the posterior portion of the frame component that provide additional fixation wire / rod angulation variations. Compression rails may also be provided. An optional elevator component may be attached to the bottom of the frame component that does not obstruct access to the soft tissues on the bottom of the foot. The elevator component protects the bottom of the foot from contaminated surfaces.

The invention provides a bone repair film and a preparation method thereof. The bone repair film is characterized by comprising an active layer, a barrier layer and a fixed layer.
