A system and method for a highly interactive style of speech-to-speech translation is provided. The interactive procedures enable a user to recognize, and if necessary correct, errors in both speech recognition and translation, thus providing robust translation output than would otherwise be possible. The interactive techniques for monitoring and correcting word ambiguity errors during automatic translation, search, or other natural language processing tasks depend upon the correlation of Meaning Cues and their alignment with, or mapping into, the word senses of third party lexical resources, such as those of a machine translation or search lexicon. This correlation and mapping can be carried out through the creation and use of a database of Meaning Cues, i.e., SELECT. Embodiments described above permit the intelligent building and application of this database, which can be viewed as an interlingua, or language-neutral set of meaning symbols, applicable for many purposes. A system and method to facilitate the translation of Command Line Interface (CLI) configuration scripts associated with a device into the corresponding equivalent CLI configuration scripts of another device. The system includes a translator and one or more data dictionaries. The translator includes a user interface module, a translator logic module to enable the translation, and a current data dictionary module for retaining a selected data dictionary. Each of the data dictionaries includes common syntax generated for a variety of CLI script types. A particular data dictionary is referenced based upon initial input from a network administrator. The translator then generates the automated translation of corresponding scripts from those scripts associated with an original device into a device having differing script requirements.

A user-interactive automatic translation device for a mobile device, includes: a camera image controller for converting an image captured by a camera into a digital image; an image character recognition controller for user-interactively selecting a character string region to be translated from the digital image, performing a character recognition function on the selected character string region based on an optical character reader (OCR) function and character recognition information to generate a text string; and user-interactively correcting errors included in the text string. An apparatus and method for automatic translation of patent documents are provided. Translation knowledge customized for the patent domain is extracted and used. The method includes the steps of: extracting a number of technical terms from a patent document and assigning translated terms for the extracted technical terms; extracting expressions frequently used in patent documents, not in a document in a general domain, and constructing translated expressions; using the translation knowledge constructed in this way, applying a sentence pattern to extraordinarily long sentences in a patent document, dividing the sentence by recognition of parallel structure and syntax clues; and extracting translation units available for parsing and performing structure analysis.

Disclosed are a hybrid automatic translation method and apparatus employing a combination of a rule-based method and a translation pattern method, and a computer readable medium thereof, which is capable of solving an ambiguity problem of the conventional rule-based method and a pattern generation and coverage problem of the translation pattern method. A system and method predict the translation quality of a translated input document. The method includes receiving an input document pair composed of a plurality of sentence pairs, each sentence pair including a source sentence in a source language and a machine translation of the source language sentence to a target language sentence. For each of the sentence pairs, a representation of the sentence pair is generated, based on a set of features extracted for the sentence pair. Using a generative model, a representation of the input document pair is generated, based on the sentence pair representations. A translation quality of the translated input document is computed, based on the representation of the input document pair.

A method for automatic translation from a first language to a second language, according to the invention, comprising the steps of:

• • a) acquiring an initial sentence or text to be translated;
  • b) selecting one or more automatic translation techniques;
  • c) generating a plurality of translations of the initial sentence or text from the first language to the second language by means of the selected translation technique or techniques;
  • d) for each one of the translations into the second language, generating a back-translation from the second language to the first language;
  • e) comparing said back-translations into the first language with the initial sentence or text in the first language and generating a corresponding index of deviation;
  • f) selecting, among the translations into the second language, the translation that corresponds to the back-translation for which the index of deviation is lowest or nil.

A mobile terminal of the invention includes a language translation unit and stores in advance a language used in the mobile terminal. When the mobile terminal calls or receives a call, the mobile terminal recognizes a country ID corresponding to a people who is called by the mobile terminal or who calls the mobile terminal, by using a telephone number, notification information of a base station, or a control signal from the mobile terminal. Then, the mobile terminal performs language translation by using a translation pattern determined based on the language used in the mobile terminal and the country ID.
