An embodiment of the present invention may be made by the following steps: providing a mixture comprising a plurality of fibers, a lubricant, and a suspension fluid, with the suspension fluid filling a void space between said fibers and subjecting said mixture to at least one compressive force. The compressive force causes the migration and alignment of said fibers; and may remove substantially all of the suspension fluid from said mixture. The mixture may further comprise a biologically active agent, or a reinforcing agent.

A wound dressing suitable for use in negative pressure wound therapy system includes a cover layer adapted to establish a reservoir over a wound in which a negative pressure may be maintained. The cover layer includes an opening therein through which atmospheric gasses and wound exudates may pass through the cover layer. A vacuum port is affixed to the cover layer, and establishes a substantially fluid tight seal about the opening in the cover layer. The vacuum port includes a hollow interior in fluid communication with the opening in the cover layer and a connector to facilitate connection to a vacuum source. A packing member is affixed to the cover layer, to provide a wound dressing that may be applied in a single step process. The packing member is adapted to fill the wound and support the cover layer when a negative pressure is applied to the reservoir.

Methods and devices are provided for macerating and removing tissue. In general, a maceration device is provided that can be distally advanced into a body in a minimally invasive surgical procedure and positioned proximate to tissue desirable for removal from the body. The maceration device can include an elongate shaft having a cutting element positioned on the shaft's side (i.e., not located on a distal tip of the elongate shaft). The cutting element can rotate to macerate tissue. When being introduced to the body, an elongate axis of the elongate shaft and a longitudinal axis of the cutting element can be substantially parallel to each other. The water-absorbent polymer composite prepared by the method is characterized in that the fibers are stably fixed to the water-absorbent polymer not only in dry but also in wet through water absorption for swelling, the water-absorbent polymer content can be enlarged relative to the fibers, the polymer can be uniformly fixed to the fibers, the composite is flexible and can be thinned, and it can be opened by itself and can be uniformly mixed with any other material.
