272 results about "Snout" patented technology

A snout is the protruding portion of an animal's face, consisting of its nose, mouth, and jaw. In many animals, the equivalent structure is called a muzzle, rostrum, or proboscis. The wet furless surface around the nostrils of the nose of some animals is called the rhinarium (colloquially this is the "cold wet nose" of some animals). The rhinarium is often associated with a stronger sense of olfaction. The snout is considered a weak point on most animals: because of its structure, an animal can be easily stunned or knocked out, or even have its snout snapped by applying sufficient force.

Internal nasal dilator

InactiveUS6270512B1Easy to disassembleBarely be feltSurgeryDilatorsNostrilLimen nasi
A dilator / insert internally support the lateral nasal walls and securely stay in place without discomfort. It stays inserted by a pair of ledges (9a and 10a) and / or catches (7a and 8a), each resting behind a respective: limen nasi ridge (a somewhat vertical central protuberance on a lateral nasal wall); and / or a foot of the columella (the "meaty' protuberance peripherally off the base of the columella). The insert is confined from shifting off those protuberances by being tall (distance between 1a and 2a); almost as tall near the entrances of the nose as the entrances themselves. When worn, the bridge (1a and 2a) / leg (3a, 4a an 5a, 6a) assemblies look like two central nose rings. The peripheral rigidity of the bridge / leg assemblies braces the lateral walls of the nose apart and keeps the ledges in position. Catches can position midway rearward on bottom legs; and they extend centrally enough to rest behind, without engaging, the feet of the columella. The function of the described embodiment is to improve nostril breathing. It, or a similarly functioning embodiment, assembled by incorporating nasal tubing can be used to keep nasal tubing in the nostrils and prevent such tubing from scraping the nasal walls. An embodiment of the insert can be used as comfortable nasal jewelry.

Pet feeding dish

InactiveUS7207291B1Slow paceSlowing eating processAnimal feeding devicesMeat processingDish structureEngineering
An improved pet feeding dish is herein disclosed for causing pets to eat their mealtime ration at a slower pace. The pet feeding dish generally comprises an annular-shaped trough which compels the pet to move its snout in a circular fashion therethrough, thereby slowing the eating process. Additionally, obstructions in the form of wave-like indentations are formed in the base of the dish to provide for even distribution of food within the dish as well as to cause the pet to reach into each of the furrows created thereby, thus further retarding the eating process. The teachings of the present invention may be adapted for use with virtually any type of pet that is capable of consuming food from a dish structure such as dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, gerbils, or other similar type domesticated or non-domesticated animal.

Nasal Cannula Assembly

InactiveUS20100224196A1RespiratorsMedical devicesNostrilFacial anatomy
An embodiment of the present invention is a nasal cannula for delivering continuous positive airway pressure (“CPAP”) to a patient's nares during operative procedures or in critical care areas. A malleable metal or plastic is encased in the bridge of the cannula to allow it to be shaped to the patient's face. As a result of contouring the cannula to the face, air leaks are minimized allowing a seal to be provided when an op site is applied to cover the upper lip, nasal cannula and nose. The cannula's nasal inserts can end in nontapered or slightly tapered non-sealing beads, which may be slightly angled out to accommodate various facial anatomies. When approximately several liters per minute of oxygen are flowed through the cannula, CPAP is obtained.

Hermetic sealing of optical module

InactiveUS20050058411A1Coupling light guidesFiberEpoxy
A hermetically sealable package may be formed from a top portion and a bottom portion mated along a seam at or near a plane of an optical fiber. A completed pill assembly may be positioned directly into the enclosure base without requiring the fiber to be threaded through the feed through or “snout”. The top potion may then be mated with the bottom portion to form the package. A glass solder ring may be placed coaxial with the fiber in the feed through. The seam may be sealed by laser welding and the glass solder ring reflowed by laser heating, for example, with a same laser as used to weld the seam or by resistive or induction heating. In some embodiments a coupling tube around the fiber and snout or the snout itself may have holes to allow solder sealing within the snout and filling the remaining area with epoxy. Since the package is initially split in two pieces, module assembly may be facilitated without threading.
