Method and system for provoking an avoidance behavioral response in animals

InactiveUS20140261151A1Enhanced predatory/prey interactionImprove risk perceptionAnimal repellantsOrder telegraph apparatusAvoidance responsePhysiology
The system and method of producing an avoidance response in an animal, and more particularly, producing an avoidance response by illuminating the animal with light or sound of sufficient wavelength, intensity, frequency, and duration to create the desired avoidance response in the animal. The system and method of producing top predator behavior to produce an avoidance repose in an animal by utilizing one or more unmanned vehicles in the air, on land and / or in the water where the unmanned vehicles comprise illumination sources.

Optimization of Response to Light

Various aspects provide for exposing a substance to light. Certain aspects include exposing a suspension of photosynthetic organisms to sunlight, and may include optimizing exposure to improve photosynthesis conditions. Certain embodiments include controlling an opacity or opacity profile of a suspension of algae and / or diatoms. Optimizing exposure may include maximizing growth rate, maximizing photosynthesis efficiency, maximizing lipid production, minimizing damage, minimizing predator growth, maximizing a capacity to grow in suboptimal media (e.g., polluted water, brackish water, or water having a pH outside of a preferable range), minimizing requirements for nutrients, and other features.

Nest for solitary bees

InactiveUS8465340B1Reduces and eliminates aggressive behaviorReduces and eliminates and possible injuryBeehivesSolitary beeEngineering
A nest for solitary bees may be fashioned from a rectangular solid of either a solid matrix or a number of nest elements. Each side of the nest contains a multiplicity of apertures, where each aperture provides a nesting cavity for the bees. Each aperture has an open end and a closed end. If fashioned from individual nest elements, the orientation of the apertures may be adjusted as desired, such that each element may be stacked upon an adjacent element in one of four orientations, so that the cavities of one element may be at 0°, 90°, 180° or 270° relative to an adjacent element. If desired, the aperture density of each side may be adjusted as desired. The configuration of the nesting cavities of the present invention reduces congestion at nest entrances and provides shelter to the bees from predators and the environment.

Multi-factorial electronic shark repellant

InactiveUS20120031343A1Lower average currentInefficiency can be toleratedShark screensPisciculture and aquariaPropagation patternElectrical battery
In abstract this invention is a pressure and water sealed unit small enough to be worn by a swimmer. It contains a rechargeable battery, control interface logic, digital signal generation, and amplification circuitry. It uses a ground balanced electrode system to produce electric fields in the very low impedance environment of water. These fields are organized into patterns called words. These words are presented in a hierarchal pseudo random manner to prevent target organisms from learning and adapting to them. The presentation of these words is controlled by upgradable programing stored within memory. The words evoke central nervous system (CNS) responses which result in sharks leaving the area of operation. These words represent stimuli of predators, navigation signals, noxious events, CNS interference patterns, and other sequences found to repel sharks from the protected area. Reprogrammability allows upgrades to newer sequences. The amplifier uses switching stages to multiply the battery voltage up to about one thousand times. An inversion unit provides for positive and negative signals. The switching circuit is logic level and pulse width modulation controlled. The switching typology permits micro miniaturization and efficient power consumption prolonging battery life. The unit has no user adjustable parameters except for go no-go control and shark alarm. Unit and battery status is indicated by flashing light signals. Electrode typology generates a spherical electric wave propagation pattern in water. A recharging cradle projects magnetic energy into the unit providing for automatic battery recharging and conditioning without electrical connections exposed to an aqueous environment.

Commercial post larval collector habitat

The collector habitat device comprises panels of non-biodegradable and / or synthetic fibrous material set in durable weatherproof frames and attached to a base; when placed in, the panels hang within the water column providing numerous parallel settlement surfaces for post-larvae. A float assembly, optionally attached to the opposite side of the base from the panels, allows the device to float just below the water's surface. The collector habitat device also incorporates a guard, surrounding the panels, with apertures to allow settlement-stage post-larvae access to the settlement surfaces, while preventing larger organisms and potential predators from gaining access. The collector habitat device also, optionally, incorporates an optionally removable / re-attachable reservoir hung below the guard; and an optional olfactory attractant delivery device.

Predator Deterrent Vest

A predator dissuading vest is provided for pets and other animals. The vest is configured to employ bristles extending from engagements with the vest to distal ends and spikes as a deterrent to an attack by a predator. Conductors for an electric shock can also be included as an additional predator dissuading component.

Nest box or birdhouse

ActiveUS11363802B1Easy nesting cavity cleaningEliminate nesting cavityBird housingsAnimal scienceNest box
A nest box or birdhouse wherein a removable roof panel provides easy physical access to a nest cavity and also secures an interchangeable entrance panel in multiple positions—for both active-breeding-season use and off-season storage. All vertical enclosure components can remain in place during activity monitoring, avoiding harm to eggs or hatchlings when the nest box is opened. In the off-season-storage configuration, the enclosed nest cavity is eliminated to prevent infestation. The nest box utilizes a hollow roof-locking pin for increased ventilation. Furthermore, an adjustable-height mounting mechanism helps prevent predator attacks and allows the nest box to be accessed at safe heights during physical monitoring and maintenance.
