Ultrasound-mediated drug delivery

Methods and apparatus are disclosed for treating physiological problems, and for providing rapid, efficacious transdermal treatment, for example, of muscle sprains, erectile dysfunction, or baldness, without requiring the use of needles or other invasive interventions. A topical therapeutic agent and ultrasound energy are applied to a tissue surface, e.g., the skin, such that the ultrasound enhances transdermal penetration of the agent. The invention is especially useful in localized delivery of a controlled dosage of a therapeutic agent to the small blood vessels and capillaries beneath the skin's surface.

Devices, therapeutic compositions and corresponding percutaneous treatment methods for aortic dissection

The methods and devices disclosed herein pertain to the percutaneous treatment of various forms of aortic dissection by at least partially filling the false lumen of the aortic dissection with a stabilization agent percutaneously and steps to decrease the size of the false lumen using the devices. Fluid maybe aspirated from the false lumen to decrease the volume of the false lumen. And the entrance opening between the true lumen and the false lumen may be sealed with a sealing agent such as a biocompatible adhesive. The medical devices disclosed herein generally comprise an extendable sealing element that is used in conjunction with a catheter to expand the true lumen while reducing the size of the false lumen. The device has the ability to aspirate and / or deliver fluid containing the stabilization agent into the false lumen.

Percutaneous method and device to treat dissections

Some embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to methods and systems for percutaneously treating dissections in a patient's vasculature, such as, without limitation, the aorta. The method can include deploying a catheter containing a collapsed anchoring element, frame, and cover through a first vessel to an entry point of the dissection. In some embodiments, the anchoring element can be secured to the second branch vessel. The frame can be expanded in the first branch vessel. The cover can be unfolded over at least a portion of the entry point. The cover then reduces blood flow into the entry point.

Device to percutaneously treat heart valve embolization

The present invention provides devices and methods for percutaneously retrieving an embolized or malpositioned heart valve or foreign bodies from a patient's body. Several of these devices may include a catheter system with expandable and retractable baskets attached to a catheter and guidewire system. The guidewire may be inserted through the lumen of the embolized or malpositioned heart valve, capturing the valve in the baskets, and deploying a mechanism to crush the valve within the baskets. Then the crushed baskets and valve may be retrieved either from the body or to a safer location such as but not limited to the descending aorta. This system is advantageous because it does not require open surgery to retrieve the valve or embolized material.

System and methods for planning and performing three-dimensional holographic interventional procedures with three-dimensional tomographic and live imaging

A method and a system for image-guided intervention such as a percutaneous treatment or diagnosis of a patient may include at least one of a pre-registration method and a re-registration method. The pre-registration method is configured to permit for an efficient virtual representation of a planned trajectory to target tissue during the intervention, for example, as a holographic light ray shown through an augmented reality system. In turn, this allows the operator to align a physical instrument such as a medical probe for the intervention. The re-registration method is configured to adjust for inaccuracy in the virtual representation generated by the pre-registration method, as determined by live imaging of the patient during the intervention. The re-registration method may employ the use of intersectional contour lines to define the target tissue as viewed through the augmented reality system, which permits for an unobstructed view of the target tissue for the intervention.
