An indwelling catheter comprises a catheter tube. The catheter tube is provided with an inserted portion which is to be inserted into a patient and a main portion which is provided on a base end side of the inserted portion. Furthermore, a tapered portion is formed on at least a part of the inserted portion. An outer diameter of the inserted portion is thinner than an outer diameter of the main portion. According to the above-mentioned indwelling catheter, since the outer diameter of the inserted portion is made thinner than that of the main portion by providing the tapered portion, a pricking pain of a patient is reduced. In addition, since the outer diameter of the inserted portion is made thin without the need of making the outer diameter of the main portion thin, a sufficient flow amount of fluid for medical interventions can be secured.

Indwelling urinary catheter

The retention balloon of the Foley urinary drainage catheter is replaced by a new self-retaining system. This new self-retaining catheter eliminates the problem of residual urine and also of bladder wall irritation caused by continuous contact with a spherical retention balloon; it also does not rely on a stylet for placement. The new system may use an internal control wire that reversibly foreshortens the proximal end of the catheter thus radially displacing longitudinal strips defined in the proximal catheter to form retention wings. Alternatively, a balloon situated between the longitudinal strips is inflated to force open the retention wings once inside the urinary bladder. Radial displacement of the retention wings widens the spaces between the longitudinal strips, these spaces constituting the drainage apertures which permit complete emptying of the urinary bladder, thereby eliminating a source of bladder irritation. The radially displaced retention wings abut the bladder wall in a non-continuous manner thereby reducing the area of bladder-catheter contact and further reducing bladder wall irritation.

Indwelling urinary catheter

An indwelling urinary catheter having a simple structure that can discharge urine easily is disclosed. The indwelling urinary catheter comprises a body that includes an inserted part to be inserted into the bladder, and a non-inserted part that is formed in one body with the inserted part and positioned outside of the bladder, a discharging tube installed inside of the body for discharging the urine, the first fixing member formed inside of the inserted part, and an expander one end of which is fixed to the first fixing member. Typical problems associated with the conventional balloon-shaped fixing member are resolved because the indwelling urinary catheter is fixed in a desirable position by an expanding a part of the body. Also, because the indwelling urinary catheter of the present invention needs no additional fixing devices such as the balloon-shaped fixing device but instead can be fixed by the expander, it has a simple structure and enlarged inner diameter of the discharging tube. Thus urine is discharged from the bladder effectively. Moreover, the indwelling urinary catheter has a long life and can be manufactured economically and quickly due to the simple and effective structure.

Renal monitor

A continuous Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) estimation system may include a Foley catheter, a continuous urine creatinine sensor, and a urine output monitor. The continuous GFR estimation system computes creatinine clearance as CrCl=(Ucr×Uvol) / (Pcr×Imim), where Ucr is urine creatinine in mg / dL, Uvol is urine volume in mL, Pcr is plasma (serum) creatinine in mL, and Imin is time in minutes. A Foley catheter may be used to withdraw urine from the bladder. The urine may be delivered to a urine output monitor that provides the Uvol value over a time Imin. Attached to the catheter is the flow-through continuous urine creatinine sensor for providing the Ucr value. The remaining parameter is Pcr. Because serum creatinine levels do not change rapidly over time, a blood sample may be withdrawn prior to the start of the continuous GFR to obtain the PCr value.

Cervical dilator catheter

This invention is an improved balloon catheter for cervical dilation. This catheter has a balloon that is passed through the cervix of a pregnant woman, and the balloon is then inflated with 100-120 ml of sterile water or normal saline. The improved disc shape of the inflated balloon is 8 cm in diameter and 3-4 cm in height. The balloon will sweep the amniotic membrane away from the cervix, causing the release of prostaglandins which helps ripen the cervix and initiates uterine contractions. The improved shape of the balloon causes the cervix to be 6-8 cm dilated once it is expelled. This catheter also contains a flexible guidewire that allows for easier insertion for the provider, and makes insertion less painful for the patient because it can be placed without a speculum and ring forcep being used. This catheter could actually be placed on an outpatient basis or in the doctor's office, with the patient instructed to go to the hospital or birthing unit when the catheter falls out. This catheter is smaller in diameter than the 16 French Foley catheter, so therefore it can be placed when the patient is <1 cm dilated. This catheter when placed properly and secured to the patient's thigh with tension applied can shorten labor by 4-10 hours.
