A method for detecting direction when interfacing with a computer program is provided. The method includes capturing an image presented in front of an image capture device. The image capture device has a capture location in a coordinate space. When a person is captured in the image, the method includes identifying a human head in the image and assigning the human head a head location in the coordinate space. The method also includes identifying an object held by the person in the image and assigning the object an object location in coordinate space. The method further includes identifying a relative position in coordinate space between the head location and the object location when viewed from the capture location. The relative position includes a dimension of depth. The method may be practiced on a computer system, such as one used in the gaming field.

Method of stereoscopic 3D viewing using wireless or multiple protocol capable shutter glasses

A system, apparatus, method, and computer-readable media are provided for the viewing of stereoscopic three dimensional (3D) images using shutter glasses. According to one method, a wireless protocol is used to communicate stereoscopic synchronization information. The glasses may scan wireless, infrared, and visible light signals to deduce the timing necessary for stereoscopic synchronization with the display. The necessary synchronization information is then determined from the information in these signals. Other methods incorporate this technology into a mobile device, a cradle or dongle that attaches to the mobile device, or an otherwise ordinary pair of sunglasses.

Method for providing discount offers to a user

A method for providing a user with merchant discount offers comprising obtaining a profile from the user; storing discount offers received from one or more merchants as data in a merchant database; comparing the profile of the user with the data in the merchant database to identify matches of discounts offered by the merchants that likely may be of interest to the user based on the user profile; creating a personalized shopping guide for the user which lists the matches; displaying the personalized shopping guide to the user; enabling the user to select one or more discount offers of interest from the personalized shopping guide; storing the selected discount offers of interest in a selection database accessible to the user; and enabling a merchant to identify the user and to gain access to the selection database at the point of sale. The merchant is preferably a mall based store. The method also enables a user to setup a “wish list” of selected items which are of interest to the user when a discount offer becomes available, and to notify the user when offers for the selected items become available.

Methods and apparatus for displaying multiple contexts in electronic documents

Methods and apparatus for simultaneously displaying multiple-contexts in a page-oriented viewing architecture utilize the concept of page pinning in which a portion of a first document context is displayed as a fixed frame overlayed on or placed beside the display of a second document context. A user may navigate within the second document context while viewing the portion of the first document context as a pinned page on the display. Thus, a single navigational focus is maintained even though multiple contexts are displayed in the page-oriented architecture. Page pinning may be used to view two non-contiguous locations in a single electronic document or to view two pages of respective different electronic documents. The invention contemplates the use of a pinned page to hold a particular context while a command set is executed from a command document viewed as the second context. The invention also contemplates the use of a pinned index page to provide a collection of links for permitting a user to navigate to different contexts, including pages within a main document or to other documents. Finally, the invention contemplates the user of a pinned page to provide the equivalent of an “always on top window” display.
