Adhesive peel-forming formulations for dermal delivery of drugs and methods of using the same

The present invention is drawn to adhesive peel-forming formulations for dermal delivery of a drug. The formulation can include a drug, a solvent vehicle, and a peel-forming agent. The solvent vehicle can include a volatile solvent system having one or more volatile solvent, and a non-volatile solvent system having one or more non-volatile solvent, wherein the non-volatile solvent system has a solubility for the drug that is within a window of operable solubility for the drug such that the drug can be delivered at therapeutically effective rates over a sustained period of time. The formulation can have a viscosity suitable for application to a skin surface prior to evaporation of the volatile solvents system. When applied to the skin, the formulation can form a solidified peelable layer after at least a portion of the volatile solvent system is evaporated.

In-sewer treatment of wastewater and sludges

A method and apparatus for in-sewer wastewater treatment comprising steps of largely spontaneously growing acidogenic bacteria in sewer lines and providing methanogenic bacteria in these lines. Methanogenic bacteria can be grown using wastewater, solid, or other waste, or other organic feedstock as a substrate. Methanogenic bacteria can be cultivated at a wastewater treatment plant or at other locations in special reactors, or provided from anaerobic wastewater pretreatment plants. Digestion gases can be either vented out or collected and used.

Upright vacuum cleaner with cyclonic airflow

A vacuum cleaner includes a first housing defining a cyclonic airflow chamber and a second housing defining a main suction opening that is in communication with an inlet of the cyclonic chamber. A suction source has a suction airstream inlet in communication with an outlet of the cyclonic chamber, and establishes a suction airstream that enters said main suction opening, passes through said cyclonic chamber, and passes to an outlet of said suction source. A substantial portion of particulates entrained in the suction airstream are separated therefrom when said suction airstream moves in a cyclonic fashion through the cyclonic chamber. A main filter assembly, preferably including filter medium comprising polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), is located in the cyclonic chamber so that a suction airstream moving from the main suction opening to the inlet of said suction source by way of the cyclonic airflow chamber passes through the filter medium thereof after said airstream moves in a cyclonic fashion within the cyclonic airflow chamber to remove residual particulates from the suction airstream before it leaves the cyclonic chamber. A HEPA filter can be provided to filter the suction airstream exhausted through the outlet of the suction source prior to the airstream being discharged from the vacuum.

Orthopedic intramedullary fixation system

A system and method for repairing fractured long bones. A guide wire is inserted through an opening drilled in a proximal bone segment and pushed through the intramedullary cavity of the proximal bone segment, across the fracture site and into the intramedullary cavity of a distal bone segment. A dilator is inserted over the guide wire and pushed through the intramedullary cavity into the distal bone segment to a stop at the distal end of the guide wire. A flexible tube having a radially expandable distal portion is then pushed over the guide wire into the distal bone segment and against the dilator. A compression nut is threaded over the proximal end of the guide wire to engage the proximal bone segment and compress the flexible tube. Compression of the flexible tube deploys the radially expandable distal portion to anchor the device in the distal bone segment.

Adhesive solid gel-forming formulations for dermal drug delivery

The present invention is drawn to adhesive solid gel-forming formulations, methods of drug delivery, and solidified gel layers for dermal delivery of a drug. The formulation can include a drug, a solvent vehicle, and a gelling agent. The solvent vehicle can include a volatile solvent system having one or more volatile solvent, and a non-volatile solvent system having one or more non-volatile solvent, wherein at least one non-volatile solvent is flux-enabling non-volatile solvent(s) capable of facilitating the delivery of the drug at therapeutically effective rates over a sustained period of time. The formulation can have a viscosity suitable for application to a skin surface prior to evaporation of the volatile solvents system. When applied to the skin, the formulation can form a solidified gel layer after at least a portion of the volatile solvent system is evaporated. The solidified gel layer is can be removed by either peeling or washing using a designated solvent or solvents.

A diaphragm positioned in a waste disposal device for holding and twisting flexible tubing dispensed form a cartridge housed in the waste disposal device. The twisting of the tubing is accomplished either by rotating the diaphragm and holding the cartridge stationary, or rotating the cartridge and holding the diaphragm. A rotation mechanism is operatively configured to the waste disposal device for rotating either the cartridge or the diaphragm while impeding the rotation of the other. The twisting of the flexible sealably encapsulates a waste package inserted into the flexible tubing through an opening in the cartridge.
