Disclosed are systems and methods for creating and distributing programming content carried by a digital streaming media to be a plurality of remote nodes located over a large geographic area to create customized broadcast quality programming at the remote nodes. At the remote nodes, a multi-window screen display simultaneously shows different programming including national programming and local programming content. The remote nodes utilize a remote channel origination device to assemble the customized programming at the remote location that can be controlled from a central location. An encapsulated IP and IP encryption system is used to transport the digital streaming media to the appropriate remote nodes. Also disclosed is a graphical user interface (“GUI”) providing a software control interface for creating and editing shows or programs that can be aired or played on a remote display device having a multi-window display. Another application software system is capable of automating the production of audio narration reports. Methods and apparatus for using selective resolution reduction on images to be transmitted and / or used by a playback device are described. Prior to transmission one or more images of an environment are captured. Based on image content, motion detection and / or user input a resolution reduction operation is selected and performed. The reduced resolution image is communicated to a playback device along with information indicating a UV map corresponding to the selected resolution allocation that should be used by the playback device for rendering the communicated image. By changing the resolution allocation used and which UV map is used by the playback device different resolution allocations can be made with respect to different portions of the environment while allowing the number of pixels in transmitted images to remain constant. The playback device renders the individual images with the UV map corresponding to the resolution allocation used to generate the individual images.

Methods and apparatuses for nonlinear scaling of video images. To match the aspect ratios of a video image and the target display area, at least one embodiment of the present invention scales the video image according to one or more nonlinear functions along the horizontal direction and / or the vertical direction. In one embodiment, the nonlinear functions are such that the original aspect ratio of the video image is preserved near the center region (or strip) of the image and the image is gradually stretched (or compressed) as it is mapped to the edges. In one example, the scaling is implemented by the texture mapping functionality of OpenGL using graphics hardware. In one embodiment of the present invention, the nonlinear mapping is constructed according to a polynomial mapping; and, the coefficients of the polynomial are adjustable by a user to trade off distortion between the image center and the image edges, giving the user control over the location and the amount of distortion.

The invention relates to a video dynamic super-resolution processing method and system. The processing method comprises the steps of obtaining a motion vector of any pixel in a current to-be-processed frame according to motion estimation and calculating reliability degree of the motion vector; extracting the corresponding pixel of the pixel in a former high-resolution frame according to the motion vector of the pixel and carrying out Kalman filtering processing according to the corresponding pixel, thereby obtaining a first processing result; carrying out interpolation processing on the to-be-processed frame to obtain a second processing result; and carrying out weight fusion on the first processing result and the second processing result through utilization of the reliability degree, thereby obtaining a super-resolution frame after fusion. According to the method and the system, the problems of protecting edge information well and improving image edge sawteeth are realized; more image details are restored effectively on the condition of not increasing excessive extra time cost; moreover, relatively high robustness is achieved; and disorder of a super-resolution result or motion blurring resulting from inaccurate motion estimation is avoided.

Bandwidth-efficient processing of video images

A technique is described for performing multiple video processing tasks in a single operation, as opposed to serially. For instance, a technique is described for de-interlacing a principal video stream at the same time that at least one video sub-stream is combined with the principal video stream. Performing these tasks in a single call to a graphics processing unit, as opposed to staggered serial calls, reduces the bandwidth requirements of the processing operations. This, in turn, can enable a computing device to perform these multiple operations at full frame rate. In one implementation, different texturing units are respectively assigned to the principal video stream and the video sub-stream. The graphics processing unit interacts with these texturing units and associated memory locations substantially in parallel, thus providing the above-described bandwidth savings.
