Sound perception using frequency transposition by moving the envelope

The application relates to a method of improving a user's perception of an input sound. The application further relates to an audio processing device and to its use. The object of the present application is to increase the sound quality of a sound signal as perceived by a user, e.g. a hearing impaired user. The method comprises a) Defining a critical frequency fcrit between a low frequency range and a high frequency range; b) Analyzing an input sound in a number of frequency bands below and above said critical frequency; c) Defining a cut-off frequency fcut below said critical frequency fcrit; d) Identifying a source frequency band above said cut-off frequency fcut; e) Extracting the envelope of said source band; f) Identifying a corresponding target band below said critical frequency fcrit; g) Extracting the phase of said target band; h) Combining the envelope of said source band with the phase of said target band. This has the advantage of increasing the sound quality, and the potential to further improve speech intelligibility in frequency transposition, e.g. frequency lowering systems. The invention may e.g. be used in communication devices, such as telephones, or listening devices, e.g. hearing instruments, headsets, head phones, active ear protection devices or combinations thereof.

Retractable ear protection device

The invention disclosed provides an improved ear protection system comprising an ear protection device and an innovative stowage device. The stowage device is capable for inconspicuously securing the ear protection device to an easily accessible entity such as an article of clothing. The system is further able to accommodate various sizes and shapes of ear protection devices at varying distances and lengths from the user's ear. Additionally incorporated in the ear protection system is a locking mechanism to control the extension and retraction of the ear protection device from th stowage device.

listening system comprising an alerting device and a listening device

ActiveUS20120169454A1Simplify the confirmation processTransducer detailsImplantable hearing aidsAuditory systemEngineering
A listening system that eases the acknowledgement of ‘alarm signals’, as e.g. issued by alarm indicators, in the environment of a user in difficult listening situations. The listening system is adapted to issue specific ALARM mode signals to the user corresponding to said external alarm signals, when said listening system is in an ALARM mode. An advantage of the present system is that a user is able to take notice of alarms from normal indicators even in case of a hearing impairment and / or when located in a noisy environment. The system may e.g. be used for the hearing instruments, ear protection devices, earphones, headsets or combinations thereof.

Method for reproducing acoustical sound field

InactiveCN104581604AStructure without limitStructural constraintsPublic address systemsHearing aids testing/monitoringEngineeringHearing perception
The application relates to a method of reproducing an acoustical sound field to a listener at a first location using a sound reproduction system comprising a microphone array comprising a plurality of microphone units and a loudspeaker array comprising a plurality of loudspeaker units. The application further relates to a method of testing a hearing assistance system and to a hearing assistance test system. The object of the present application is to provide an improved sound field reproduction. The problem is solved in that the method comprises 1) determining a transfer function from each loudspeaker unit of the loudspeaker array to all microphone units of the microphone array, thereby providing a set of transfer functions; 2) Inverting the set of transfer functions and determining a system of optimal filters; 3) Placing the microphone array in a possible, intended position of the listener's head in a particular sound scene at a second location and recording sound of the particular sound scene at the second location; 4) Determining the loudspeaker signals of the particular sound scene configured to be played to the listener at the first location by the loudspeaker array by convolving the inverted system of optimal filters with the recorded signals. An advantage of the method is that since the (true) sound field around the head has been reproduced (for a particular listening situation), a listener is allowed to freely move the head. The invention may e.g. be used in sound reproduction systems, virtual reality systems, mobile telephones, hearing assistance systems, e.g. hearing aids, headsets, ear phones, active ear protection systems, etc.

Sound compensation method and system and earphone

The invention discloses a sound compensation method and system and an earphone, and relates to the field of acoustics and signal processing. The method comprises the steps of: determining a first sound characteristic transfer function and a second sound characteristic transfer function from a sound pickup position to a sound compensation position; determining a third sound characteristic transferfunction from a sound production position to the sound compensation position; and according to the first sound characteristic transfer function, the second sound characteristic transfer function and the third sound characteristic transfer function, determining a sound compensation filter transfer function. Compared to the prior art, according to the invention, problems of sound production limitation and left and right ear non-time-difference listening of a speaker can be solved; consistency of sound heard when an ear protection device is worn and sound heard by naked ears is implemented; ambient sound is accurately reduced, so that a user can accurately monitor the ambient sound when wearing the ear protection device and a case that the ambient sound cannot be accurately monitored to causemisjudgment so as to cause a danger is avoided; and the method is simple and easy to implement.

Ear plug with container

An ear protection system may include an ear plug and a storage container. The ear plug may include an elastic component and an inelastic component. The ear plug may be heated, for instance, by filling the storage container with water, at least partially submerging the ear plug in the water filled container, and microwaving the container and the ear plug. The elastic component may then become compressible in order to form to the anatomy of the user's ear. A plurality of indentations may be provided on the elastic component to facilitate the compression. The ear plug may also accommodate electronic features, such as a speaker, as well as a lanyard for holding the ear plugs. The ear plug may be attached to, and used in conjunction with, an electronic device, which may be a communication system such as a wireless headset or speaker.
