Systems and methods for using a mobile device to submit an application for an insurance policy using images of documents captured by the mobile device are provided herein. The information is then used by an insurance company to generate a quote which is then displayed to the user on the mobile device. A user captures images of one or more documents containing information needed to complete an insurance application, after which the information on the documents is extracted and sent to the insurance company where a quote for the insurance policy can be developed. The quote can then be transmitted back to the user. Applications on the mobile device are configured to capture images of the documents needed for an insurance application, such as a driver's license, insurance information card or a vehicle identification number (VIN). The images are then processed to extract the information needed for the insurance application.

Text document capture with jittered digital camera

A digital imaging device such as a digital camera is used to obtain multiple digital images of all of a text document segment. The text document segment could be the entire text document so that each digital image would be of the entire text document. The multiple images are obtained while lateral jittering is imparted between the digital imaging device and the text document. The lateral jittering may be in a pair of transverse (e.g., perpendicular) directions. An enhanced resolution representation of the text document is formed from the multiple laterally displaced images and de-blurred as a multi-frame reconstruction.

User interface for three-dimensional navigation

The present invention uses invisible junctions which are a set of local features unique to every page of the electronic document to match the captured image to a part of an electronic document. The present invention includes: an image capture device, a feature extraction and recognition system and database. When an electronic document is printed, the feature extraction and recognition system captures an image of the document page. The features in the captured image are then extracted, indexed and stored in the database. Given a query image, usually a small patch of some document page captured by a low resolution image capture device, the features in the query image are extracted and compared against those stored in the database to identify the query image. The present invention also includes methods for recognizing and tracking the viewing region and look at point corresponding to the input query image. This information is combined with a rendering of the original input document to generate a new graphical user interface to the user. This user interface can be displayed on a conventional browser or even on the display of an image capture device.

Document processing system with improved image quality assurance

A document processing system comprising an image capture subsystem for capturing selected image metrics and at least one image rendition from a plurality of documents and for determining if at least one of the selected image metrics for any of the at least one image rendition does not successfully compare against preselected image quality metric threshold values. An image quality flag is generated for any of the at least one image rendition if it does not successfully compare, and a record entry for each imaged document having at least one flagged image rendition is created in an image quality flag file. An image index file for individually accessing the image renditions is modified to include a reference to the corresponding image quality flag file record entry The document processing system may optionally compare selected document metrics against preselected document metrics in a similar manner. Image defects in the plurality of documents can be identified by examining the record entries in the image quality flag file.

Document capture using client-based delta encoding with server

When different client devices request the same document, most of content of the response from the server (i.e. the response document from a web server) will be the same. Embodiments allow the client devices to use fingerprints, i.e. hashes, sent by a capture system to pinpoint only the changing portions of the document instead of sending the entire document. In various embodiments, the client compares client-generated fingerprints for the document with capture system-generated fingerprints for most likely appearing portions of text of the document or related documents to fully represent and sends to the capture system the client document in a compact and efficient way.

System and Method for Data Acquisition and Processing

A system and method for data acquisition and processing is described which can form the basis of online gaming. Encoded datagram images are captured from a computer screen or a printed document using a mobile phone or PDA or fixed line device and processed relative to a stored profile and then transmitted to a remote server to be decoded. The received datagram is read and compared with one of a plurality of stored datagram images and or decoded according to specific attributes of the datagram image. The method makes possible the capture and transmission and processing of datagrams to access services such as to cause the download of specific software such as a software application. In one embodiment this may comprise an online casino application where a player receives the software to play as well as a certain amount of credit. In a separate gaming application, the datagrams may be unique such that a player captures and transmits a datagram to find whether it is a winning datagram. The datagrams may be black and white or colour in which case they may comprise hidden colour codes which can be extracted by the decoding algorithms in the image-capturing device or in the remote server. In a separate embodiment, the method may be combined with television advertising such that viewers need only capture a displayed datagram from the television screen and send it to a published or encoded IP address or phone number so that they can access information about advertised products.
