Smoke hood with oxygen supply device and method of use

An emergency breathing device including a hood having use and storage configurations, which when compactly wrapped proximate to an oxygen control device for storage is recoverable for use. In use configuration, the hood is capable of being worn upon a user's head, which substantially surrounds the user's head. Hood surface beneath the user's head includes an opening lined with elastic material, which forms a seal about the user's neck at the opening when the hood is donned. An oxygen control device connected to a hood includes a valve body, an actuator, and an oxygen bottle. The valve body provides airflow communication with the interior of the hood, and the oxygen control device is connected to a plumbed breathable oxygen supply through a plumbed source disconnect means removably connected to the valve body. When connected, the oxygen control device permits airflow from the plumbed breathable oxygen supply and valve body to the interior of the hood. A cam within the valve body rotates with the operation of the actuator for engaging a piercing member to pierce the oxygen bottle, causing oxygen to flow from the oxygen bottle to the interior of the hood and forcing the plumbed source disconnect mechanism to simultaneously disconnect from the valve body. The user may therefore don the hood to receive breathable oxygen initially from the plumbed source and then from the oxygen bottle upon operation of the actuator and release from the plumbed source.

Apparatus for deploying oxygen masks

An apparatus for deploying oxygen masks that includes a pre-packaged modular system that does not require manual repacking of oxygen masks by aircraft technicians. The cartridge is for use with a manifold having a passageway in fluid communication with a source of breathable gas. The cartridge includes an end wall, a sidewall extending from the end wall and terminating at a distal end adjacent to an opening. A flexible member defines a chamber inside the cartridge. The chamber is in fluid communication with the passageway when the cartridge is coupled to the manifold. The flexible member has an outlet. A mask assembly is disposed inside the cartridge. The mask assembly has a hose coupled to the outlet of the flexible member. A cover is removably attached to the distal end of the at least one side wall.

Advanced latch for emergency oxygen container deployment

An advanced latch for a main door of an aircraft emergency oxygen container can be manually released by a manual release actuator pin to move the main door to an intermediate test position, while pushing the manual release actuator pin further releases the latch completely, causing the main door to open. The latch also can be operated automatically by utilizing a small, lightweight motor or an equivalent pneumatic actuator mechanism to rotate a gear mechanism of the latch.

Emergency oxygen system for aircraft passengers

An emergency oxygen system is provided for aircraft passengers. The system includes at least one oxygen mask (2), with a sensor (4) for detecting at least one breathing characteristic value of a passenger using this oxygen mask (2). A control unit (10) individually determines the oxygen requirement of the passenger on account of the detected breathing characteristic value. A dosing device (8) is actuated by the control unit (10). The dosing device (8) supplies an oxygen quantity corresponding to the determined oxygen requirement, to the oxygen mask (2).

Wireless network for controlling the oxygen system of an aircraft

A control device for activating an oxygen system of a means of transport, in particular an aircraft, a control system having such a control device, an associated method for activating an oxygen system of a means of transport, in particular an aircraft, and a computer program for carrying out the method. Furthermore, a network is provided for a means of transport, in particular for an aircraft. The control device for activating the oxygen system comprises a first activation unit which is configured to activate at least a part of the oxygen system by wireless transmission of a first activation signal.
