38 results about "Road debris" patented technology

Road debris, a form of road hazard, is debris on or off a road. Road debris includes substances, materials, and objects that are foreign to the normal roadway environment. Debris may be produced by vehicular or non-vehicular sources, but in all cases it is considered litter, a form of solid waste. Debris may tend to collect in areas where vehicles do not drive, such as on the edges (shoulder), around traffic islands, and junctions.

Method of Detecting Battery Pack Damage

A method is provided for detecting when a vehicle mounted battery pack is damaged from an impact with a piece of road debris or other obstacle. Positioned within the battery pack is a plurality of deformable cooling conduits located between the lower surface of the batteries within the battery pack and the lower battery pack enclosure panel. One or more sensors are incorporated into the cooling conduits which monitor coolant flow rate or pressure. When the cooling conduits deform, a change in coolant flow / pressure occurs that is detected by the sensors integrated into the conduit's coolant channels. A system controller, coupled to a sensor monitoring subsystem, may provide any of a variety of responses when cooling conduit deformation is detected.

Tone ring with protective filler

A tone ring for a heavy-duty vehicle anti-lock braking system (ABS) that includes a filler disposed within spaces or notches between teeth formed in the tone ring. The filler is formed of a material that does not interfere with the ability of an ABS sensor to sense the teeth. In one embodiment, the filler includes a plurality of protrusions disposed within the spaces formed between the teeth. The plurality of protrusions are integrally formed with a base that extends circumferentially around the side of the tone ring opposite the ABS sensor. In another embodiment, the filler includes a plurality of fillings disposed within notches formed between the teeth. The filler prevents road debris and / or contaminants from damaging the tone ring teeth and damaging and / or misaligning the ABS sensor. A thin coating can extend over the tone ring teeth and the plurality of protrusions or fillings to encapsulate the teeth.

Modular truck cap

A modular truck cap including at least two segments. The segments are actuated in such a manner so as to drop and slide during retraction and raise and slide during extension thereof. The segments interlock and are arranged so as to provide a flat contiguous surface substantially impervious to wind, rain, snow, and road debris while providing improved aerodynamic characteristics.
