Clumping animal litters containing composite particles with increased absorptivity and clump strength are disclosed. Reinforcing fiber materials are combined with a liquid-absorbing material to form composite particles suitable for use as animal litter. The reinforcing fiber materials add structural integrity to the liquid absorbent materials by acting in a manner similar to reinforcing bars (i.e., rebar) in concrete. The fibers need only be present in small percentages to show a consumer noticeable benefit.

A self-cleaning litter device for animals that extracts waste from litter material contained in a substantially circular chamber. Sifting of the litter is produced by a rotational motion between a rake and the chamber and may be performed by rotating the rake or the chamber. Solid waste is pushed outwards, towards the outer perimeter of the chamber, for removal. A device is provided to prevent the solid waste from smearing against the side wall of the chamber before being removed. The invention provides animal litters and methods of making and using such litters. The animal litters comprise (a) a plurality of absorbent particles comprising (i) a non-swelling particle and (ii) a clumping material coated on the non-swelling particle and (b) a plurality of one or more filler particles that are not associated with the absorbent particles. A non-color transferable animal litter that employs painted particles and non-painted water absorbent material. The painted particles are colorfast once dry. Upon wetting the dried painted particles do not bleed. The water absorbent material may be a clumping or non-clumping material.

A litter collection device for sifting animal waste using an improved sifting method is disclosed. The present invention provides a device comprising a device base and a chamber. The device base comprises a receptacle. The chamber located on the device base is filled with a litter material and receives the animal waste. The chamber is rotatable about an axis of rotation and further comprises a chamber opening and a partition. The chamber opening is operable as an ingress and an egress for the animal to deposit the animal waste, and is also operable as a waste opening for dumping the animal waste to the receptacle. The partition comprises screen sections and non-opening sections. The chamber is rotated such that the litter material passes through the screen sections and enters a trough, and the animal waste is kept out of the trough and dropped to the receptacle by the gravitational force.

Animal litters and methods of making and using such litters are disclosed herein. The animal litters comprise (a) a plurality of absorbent particles comprising (i) a non-swelling particle and (ii) a clumping material coated on the non-swelling particle and (b) a plurality of one or more filler particles that are not associated with the absorbent particles. The invention is directed toward a high performance clay-based animal litter that is comprised of a clay-based liquid-absorbing material, and at least one filler coated with at least one clumping agent. The particle size of the liquid-absorbing material is small and provides the litter with a “sandy” appearance. The high performance litter is found to be surprisingly effective in containing odors and reducing tracking and dusting. It does not contain foaming agents and / or acids to trigger foaming, and does not utilize foams to block odors.

There is provided an absorbent composition for water-based liquids, wherein dusting normally associated with handling of powdered absorbent materials is significantly reduced. The composition is formed by mixing a filler with a de-dusting agent and spraying an aqueous slurry of a deodorizing agent onto the mixture. An improved automated litter box system which provides increased storage capacity of a waste receptacle which receives animal waste and clumped litter. The increased capacity of the waste receptacle is achieved by elevating the automated litter box system with an elevating apparatus so that a replacement waste receptacle of larger volume can replace the waste receptacle of the litter box system. The invention provides improved automated litter box systems which incorporate such a large volume waste receptacle as a component thereof. The elevating apparatus includes an elevated platform on which the lifter box system is placed. A ramp is provided to provide animal access to the system placed on the elevated platform.

A breakable odor control additive provides release of fragrance or odor masking scent when present in a litter formulation that is used by a cat or other animal within a litter box. The odor control additive comprises a plurality of fragrant-scented balls. Each of the balls has a central, compressible, porous, open-celled substrate, which is saturated with a fragrant scent. This central, fragrance-saturated substrate is coated with a barrier coating, which prevents evaporation of the fragrance and protects the substrate against deterioration by urine and other contaminants deposited on the litter. When cat or animal enters the litter box, a load is applied to the fragrant-scented balls. The barrier coating breaks, exposing the fragrant coated substrate. Fragrance evaporating from the substrate provides odor control and a pleasant scent.

A clump recognition animal litter is disclosed that enables a user to visually identify and dispose of all used litter portions from unused litter portions regardless of clump size and clump location within the litter. The clump recognition animal litter comprises a clumping component and a color indicating material. A wetted litter clumps and displays a color in response to wetness.

The odor control additive comprises a plurality of fragrant-scented balls. Each of the balls has a central, compressible, porous, open-celled substrate, which is saturated with a fragrant scent. This central, fragrance-saturated substrate is coated with a barrier coating, which prevents evaporation of the fragrance and protects the substrate against deterioration by urine and other contaminants deposited on the litter. The present invention is a litter box that comprises intelligent components using image recognition and feature points to discern different animals that are authorized or excluded from use. Along with authorizing use of the litter, the litter box automatically closes and opens for access. The invention will also remove and or subvert odors that emanate from the soiled litter. Along with odor suppression, the litter box shall convert into a smaller size in order to relieve the owner of cumbersome dimensions. The litter box also has a user interface on board but can also be used remotely through the internet, cell phones, tablets, and other smart devices. In preferred embodiments, the system shall provide an easy manual or automatic method of cleanup once authorization and detection has been enacted. Another preferred embodiment of the system shall provide frequency and weight of waste for particular animals using the intelligent components to discern the particular animals.
