Interlocking peel-away dilation catheter

A dilatation balloon catheter which is capable of being removed from a patient while leaving a guide wire in place has a longitudinal slit extending from its proximal end to a position near its inflatable balloon. The catheter has an inflation lumen for applying fluid to inflate the balloon, and an insertion lumen through which the guide wire passes. The slit communicates with the insertion lumen so that the catheter can be peeled off of the guide wire as the catheter is withdrawn from the patient and the guide wire remains in place in the patient.

At the present time, physicians often treat patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) using radiofrequency (RF) catheter systems to ablate conducting tissue in the wall of the Left Atrium of the heart around the ostium of the pulmonary veins. These systems are expensive and take time consuming to use. The present invention circular ablation system CAS includes a multiplicity of expandable needles that can be expanded around a central axis and positioned to inject a fluid like ethanol to ablate conductive tissue in a ring around the ostium of a pulmonary vein quickly and without the need for expensive capital equipment. The expansion of the needles is accomplished by self-expanding or balloon expandable structures. The invention includes centering means so that the needles will be situated in a pattern surrounding the outside of the ostium of a vein. Also included are members that limit the distance of penetration of the needles into the wall of the left atrium, or the aortic wall. The present invention also has an important application to ablate tissue around the ostium of one or both renal arteries, for the ablation of the sympathetic nerve fibers and / or other afferent or efferent nerves going to or from each kidney in order to treat hypertension.

Expandable catheter for delivery of fluids

A multi lumen catheter is made from a number of thin walled flexible tubes bonded together to form an inner lumen. The inner lumen can withstand vacuum when the outside tubes are pressurized. During insertion the tubes are compressed and collapsed. The tubes expand by the pressure of the pumped fluid. At the point the catheter enters the body the expansion is restricted to a smaller diameter than the rest of the catheter.

Dilatation catheter with enhanced distal end for crossing occluded lesions

A catheter for crossing an occluding lesion with an inflatable balloon and dilating the lesion includes an inner tube that defines a longitudinal axis. The balloon includes a distal section that is bonded to the tube's distal end, a working section, and a conically shaped distal transition section connecting the working and distal section. A plurality of rigid ribs are spaced around the circumference of the balloon near the catheter's distal end. Each rib includes a first elongated portion attached to the balloon's distal section and aligned substantially parallel with the longitudinal axis. A second portion extending from the first portion and at an angle thereto is attached to and lies along the surface of the balloon's distal transition section. The plurality of ribs combine to simulate a stiff, tapered surface that can be wedged into the occluding lesion to create a passageway to cross the lesion with the balloon.

Targeted dilatation forming balloon catheter

The invention relates to the minimally invasive therapy technology and a minimally invasive therapy instrument, in particular to a method and instrument for forming a targeted balloon of a living body catheter cavity, namely a minimally invasive surgery method and instrument for carrying out targeted rear urethra balloon dilatation forming on the rear narrowed urethra of the male, wherein the rear narrowed urethra might be caused by the BPH, a tumor, an inflammation and the like. The targeted dilatation balloon dilatation catheter is provided with at least one targeted dilatation balloon, wherein one cavity is used for draining or conveying body liquid or gases and another cavity is used for filling a targeted catheter cavity dilatation balloon. At least a row of protrusions for targeted dilatation forming or a protrusion for targeted dilatation forming is arranged on the surface of the targeted dilatation balloon in the direction of the long axis. The protrusions or the protrusion for targeted dilatation forming aligns with a zone or a part, needing targeted dilatation forming, of the catheter cavity and expands in a certain manner, at a certain speed and under the certain pressure to form the balloon. Thus, the targeted dilatation forming protrusion or protrusions form selective partial high intensity of pressure and high shearing force on the targeted forming zone of the catheter cavity and targeted dilatation forming of the catheter cavity is achieved.
