To this stirred solution was added 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (DBU) (30.4 g, 0.2 mol, 1.0 equiv) in dry DMF (40 ml) dropwise The solution. After the addition was complete, the mixture was stirred for another hour. The flask was refrigerated in an ice-water bath and a solution of iodide (0.2 mol, 1.0 equiv) in DMF (40 ml) was added dropwise. The mixture was warmed to room temperature and stirred for an additional 14 hours until all starting material was converted to product (monitored by GC).
