Automobile vehicle lock

An automobile vehicle lock is released under normal operating conditions by an electric motor. Under degraded conditions, a mechanical release of the lock is enabled. This allows the motor providing electrical release of the lock to be simply dimensioned for release under normal operating conditions with no requirement to over-dimension the motor to ensure the lock will open under degraded operating conditions. Because release of the lock is mechanical under degraded operating conditions, enablement of the mechanical release is provided by a low-power standby motor. This allows a compact and inexpensive standby power source to be employed.

Vehicle lock controlled by a shape memory alloy actuator

A contractible shape memory alloy (SMA) wire is used to throw a lever in a latch. The SMA actuator provides weight and space savings. In one embodiment, the SMA actuator is incorporated in the handle of the latch in order to provide a child lock or double lock function. The handle has a lever which includes a relatively short slot leg and a relatively long slot leg. A toggle sits in the slot. At least one SMA wire is connected to the toggle to move it between the relatively short slot leg, wherein the lever is prevented from pivoting, and the relatively long slot leg, where the lever is enabled to pivot. In another embodiment, the SMA actuator is embedded in the latch itself, and used to throw a lever that controls the child lock function.

Child safety slide door apparatus for vehicles

A vehicular slide door apparatus includes a movable slide door, inside and outside door handles operable to initiate opening and closing movement of the door, a drive device that assists the slide door movement, and a remote control device that includes a door lock device and a switch. An open lever is operatively associated with the inside door handle to transmit operation of the inside door handle to the lock device, and a child-proof lever is operable to prevent operation of the inside door handle from being transmitted to the open lever. The switch is engageable by the open lever and is operatively associated with the drive device such that operation of the inside door handle produces selective actuation and non-actuation of the switch depending upon the position of the child-proof lever, with the actuation of the switch effecting driving operation of the drive device.

System and method for registering the drive mechanism position of a latch apparatus after power loss

An improved electric latch including latch position registration at power loss. A small motor affects a number of independent electrical actuations using an index gear, actuations of: Central Locking, Super Locking, Selective Locking, Power / electrical door opening (Passive Opening), and Power / electrical door closing (Soft Closing). The improved latch uses at least one sensor and several targets positioned on latch hardware to register drive mechanism positions of a latching system after loss of power. The improved system uses a sensor and target specifically for registered function. The present invention avoids the complexity of prior Latch designs by providing for latch position registration.

Latch apparatus and method

A latch assembly having at least one control element having a first path of motion in which a ratchet is moved to an unlatched position and a second path of motion in which the ratchet is not so moved, the path of motion taken by the control element dependent upon whether an engagement element is engaged with the control element or disengaged therefrom. Preferably, the control element moves the ratchet by contact with a pawl which itself can be engaged with the ratchet. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the control element can be partially or fully actuated through its second path of motion while still being engagable with its engagement element. If already partially or fully actuated through its second path of motion, the engagement element is preferably movable into contact with the control element and can move the control element to its first path of motion. The latch assembly can have a second control element also having first and second paths of motion determined at least partially upon whether an engagement element is engaged with the second control element or disengaged therefrom. The second control element can be connected to the first engagement element to move the first engagement element into and out of engagement with the first control element when the second control element is actuated in its engaged state.

Vehicle door lock device

A vehicle door lock device includes an active lever freely switchable between an unlock position and a lock position, a switching actuator, and a switching lever receiving drive force of the switching actuator to move a bushing. The active lever includes a first engagement piece and a second engagement piece. When the active lever is located at the unlock position, the second engagement piece engages with the first engagement piece located at a set position of the bushing to limit movement of the switching lever so that movement of the bushing is restricted within a range between an unset position and the set position. When the active lever is located at the lock position, the first engagement piece is arranged at a position avoiding engagement with the second engagement piece to allow the switching lever to move the bushing between the unset position and a double lock position.
