Embodiment 1

[0101] A mixture of 269 g of deionized water and 0.74 g of potassium peroxodisulfate was first charged into a 2 liter volume reactor in a nitrogen atmosphere, and the mixture was heated to 80° C. with stirring. At this temperature, 680 g of Geniosil GF 56 (trade name of Wacker Chemie; vinyltriethoxy silane) into the reactor was metered in over 90 minutes and 62 g of an initiator solution of potassium peroxodisulfate (3% in water) were metered in over 150 minutes. At the end of the initiator metering, the mixture was afterpolymerized at 80° C. for 1 hour. The polymer solution was then cooled to room temperature.

[0102] The solution obtained had a solids content of 20% and a viscosity of 685 mPa.s (measured with a Brookfield viscometer, using spindle 2, at 25° C. and 20 rpm).

Embodiment 3

[0108] With 2335g deionized water, 86.4g as the polymer solution of the water-soluble copolymer of the embodiment 1 of protective colloid, 0.05g Dissolvine Na (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium salt), 2.5g FAS (aminoiminomethanide) Sulphonic acid, 10% in water) and 24.1 g of TBHP (tert-butyl hydroperoxide, 10% in water) were initially charged in a 2 liter volume reactor under a nitrogen atmosphere, and the mixture was heated under stirring to 70°C.

[0109] At this temperature, monomers of 565.2 g of butyl acrylate, 100.3 g of styrene, 2.7 g of Geniosil GF 56 (trade name of Wacker Chemie; vinyltriethoxysilane) were metered into the reactor over 210 minutes mixture and metered in 83.6 g FF6 ( Trade name of Bürgemann Chemical; 12% in water) and TBHP (tert-butyl hydroperoxide, 10% in water).

[0110] At the end of the initiator metering, the mixture was afterpolymerized at 70° C. for 1 hour. The polymer solution was then cooled to room temperature.

Embodiment 4

[0113] Example 4 was carried out analogously to Example 3, except that no Geniosil GF 56 (vinyltriethoxysilane) was used in the polymerization to prepare the polymer dispersion.

[0114] The dispersion obtained had a solids content of 58.5% and a viscosity of 11400 mPa.s (determined with a Brookfield viscometer, using spindle 3, at 25° C. and 20 rpm). Particle size determination by Coulter LS 230 gave a Dw value of 1380 nm.

Abstract

The invention relates to water-soluble copolymers based on a) 50 to 97 wt.% of one or more non-ionic monomers that contain ethylenically unsaturated amide groups, b) 0.1 to 10 wt.% of one or more monomers that contain ethylenically unsaturated silane groups, and c) 1 to 30 wt.% of one or more ionic, ethylenically unsaturated monomers and optionally one or more other ethylenically unsaturated monomers, the amounts in wt.% adding up to 100 wt.%.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to water-soluble copolymers based on nonionic and ionic monomers containing amide groups, their production and use, for example, as aqueous polymer dispersions or as protective powders redispersible in water colloid. Background technique [0002] Water-soluble polymers are used, for example, as protective colloids, for stabilizing aqueous dispersions of water-insoluble polymers or for producing polymer powders which are redispersible in water. Such polymer dispersions or polymer powders can be used, for example, in construction chemicals. Common protective colloids are polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinylpyrrolidone, cellulose or starch, as described in EP-A133899, WO-A 84 / 00369 or EP-B 62106. In order to obtain a sufficient stabilizing effect, such protective colloids sometimes have to be used in large quantities, which may be related to the disadvantage that by adding protective colloids, the binder content of the dispersion i...
