The invention discloses a method for preparing benzonitrile, comprising the steps of: conducting a reaction on polyphthalate under catalytic effect of an acid-base bifunctional catalyst under heatingconditions with a gas containing a reactive nitrogen compound as a carrier gas; and conducting condensation to collect a liquid, and conducting separation on the liquid product to obtain benzonitrile.The method of the invention utilizes renewable resources to selectively prepare benzonitrile by a suitable reaction method, and the whole process from raw material to production process is a renewable, green and environment-friendly route.
