The stone material is produced from a component, namely, modified attapulgite clay, by using a method comprising the following steps: modifying high-viscosity attapulgite clay by using a silane coupling agent, and mixing the modified attapulgite clay with structure slurry so as to obtain modified attapulgite clay composite structure slurry; preparing a color slurry material, a surface layer slurry material and a middle layer slurry material; and sufficiently spraying the surface layer slurry material on the surface of a mold to be colored according to a color ratio, after the coloring is accomplished, uniformly spraying the middle slurry layer on the surface of a surface color layer, further casting the modified attapulgite clay composite structure slurry inside the mold, and shaping, steaming, cultivating and maintaining so as to obtain the composite artificial stone material. The artificial stone material has good stability, strength, crack resistance and saltpetering resistance, and moreover the production period of the artificial stone material is shortened, the production efficiency is improved, and the production cost is lowered.
