Abstract

The invention relatesto a process for track member production in which the hardness of a region including a rolling surface is sufficiently heightened to ensure a sufficient rolling fatigue life and the hardness of a region to be plastically deformed can be stably controlled, while inhibiting the production cost from rising. The process comprises a steel member preparation step, a heat treatment step, and a finishing step. The heat treatment step comprises: a carbonitriding step in which the steel member is heated to a carbonitriding temperature not lower than point A1 and is carbonitrided; a temperature-maintaining step in which the steel member is cooled from the carbonitriding temperature to a temperature in the range of from a temperature lower by 100 DEG C than point A1 to less than point A1 and is held in that temperature range for 60-180 minutes; and a high-frequency quenching step in which that high-hardness region of the steel member which includes the region to become the rolling surface of the track member is subjected to high-frequency quenching while preventing the low-hardness region, which is the region other than the high-hardness region, from undergoing quench-hardening.
