example 1

[0037] Except that ammonia was added after mixing ZSM-5, silica powder and acidic colloidal silica, the remaining steps were repeated for comparative experiment B. Ammonia was added in the form of a 2.5 wt% aqueous solution, wherein the ratio of the ammonia solution to the dry zeolite was 1 / 12. As a result the pH reached 8.8. After the ammonia was added, mixing was continued for 35 minutes before extrusion. The flat crushing strength is 122N / cm. See Table 1.

example 2

[0039] Example 1 was repeated except that ammonia was added 35 minutes after mixing ZSM-5, silica powder, and acidic colloidal silica. After the ammonia was added, mixing was continued for 10 minutes before extrusion. The flat crushing strength is 178N / cm.

Abstract

A method for preparing a catalyst comprising a zeolite and a low acidity refractory oxide binder which is essentially free of alumina which method comprises:(a) preparing an extrudable mass comprising a substantially homogenous mixture of zeolite, water, a source of the low acidity refractory oxide binder present which comprises an acid sol, and an amine compound,(b) extruding the extrudable mass resulting from step (a),(c) drying the extrudate resulting from step (b); and,(d) calcining the dried extrudate resulting from step (c).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a process for preparing a catalyst comprising a zeolite and a low acidity refractory oxide binder substantially free of alumina. Background technique [0002] This approach is described in patent publication US-A-5053374 exemplifying silica-bound USY catalysts. In this preparation method, 65 parts by weight of powdered zeolite was mixed with 35 parts by weight of silica, wherein the silica was composed of amorphous precipitated silica (PPG Industries HiSil 233 EP) and Ludox HS- 30 type basic colloidal silica composition. A homogeneous mixture is obtained by grinding. The moisture content of the mixture was adjusted to 42-47 wt.% with deionized water. The mixture is extruded to produce extrudates. The extrudate is then dried, ammonium exchanged to remove sodium, and calcined. [0003] The contents of binder and zeolite used in the present invention refer to dry contents. The pH values mentioned refer to the value...
