The method comprises the steps as follows: (1) measuring denitrification potential of the external carbon source; (2) measuring concentration of NO3<->-N, NO2<->-N, total nitrogen and COD in to-be-treated sewage; (3) measuring the denitrification potential ofto-be-treated sewage; (4) calculating the total nitrogen content and COD content of to-be-treated sewage in unit volume, calculating the mass of N removed through denitrification reduction from organic matter contained in to-be-treated sewage in unit volume theoretically according to the denitrification potential of to-be-treated sewage, comparing the mass with the total nitrogen content to judgewhether the external carbon source is required, and calculating the dosage of the external carbon source added to the to-be-treated sewage in unit volume according to the denitrification potential ofthe external carbon source.
